Gomes had a strong week, going 6-for-11 with two doubles and two RBIs in a series against Vista Murrieta. He consistently produced at the plate. On the season, Gomes is hitting .364 with six doubles, one home run, 18 RBIs, and 20 hits.
Gomes continues to trend upward, showing noticeable physical development since the winter with a leaner frame and added strength that’s translating into more athletic movement across the diamond. He turned in a three-hit performance, raising his season average to .390 (23-for-59) with 20 RBIs, and continues to be a consistent run producer in the lineup. The power potential was on full display as well, launching a no-doubt opposite-field home run in the 7th inning, that cleared the wall by a good 15-20 feet. Gomes played third base in this look, where he showed arm strength but had some trouble charging slow rollers. That said, his defensive value may ultimately be strongest behind the plate, where he’s previously shown upside with 1.99-2.06 pop times and 76 mph arm strength at the San Diego Preseason All-State. With big-time pop and growing versatility, Gomes is a 2027 name that continues to show real upside.
Wes Gomes, Murrieta Valley High (CA), 2027
Positional Profile: C/1B Up and coming player with primary value behind the plate with enough versatility to handle 1B when needed.
Body: 6-2, 261-pounds. Tall, broad-shouldered frame with present strength and a physical look. The build is already sturdy, with additional upside tied to continued strength gains and refinement of movement efficiency.
Hit: RHH. Relaxed posture with a wide, stable base. The pre-swing move is deliberate and unhurried, with the hands working down into the load rather than staying high and static. The trigger stays simple, using only a small toe tap before the upper half fires aggressively. Swing is firm and intent-driven, working on a slightly uphill path with a strong feel for the barrel. The bat gets through the zone with authority, producing loud contact and consistent impact when timing is right. 72.4 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 77.0 mph. 314' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-75 mph. INF-74 mph. C: the arm works loose and free from a three-quarter slot, allowing the ball to come out with easy carry. INF: the action shortens up and plays quicker, still from a similar slot, giving the overall throwing profile a versatile look depending on the defensive role.
Defense: 2.01-2.14 pop times. C: shows athleticism and range, with the ability to move laterally and keep plays in front. Transfers out of the glove are clean and direct, helping the release stay efficient. INF: Footwork stays quiet and controlled, the glove works cleanly, and lateral movement looks strong and coordinated.
ATH: 7.39 runner in the 60. 1.74 and 4.11 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Vizual Edge: 62.67 Edge Score
