Hitting out of the 3-hole, Castro got the Spartans on the board early by sending a full count FB to dead CF for a 2-run triple, one of three hard-hit balls on the day for the senior. After a five-pitch BB in his second trip, Castro would barrel a 1-0 pitch down the RF line for a flyout after a nice ranging play by the RF. Looking to continue the offensive outburst for De La Salle, Castro would leadoff the 5th with a hard-hit grounder to 1st, just getting on top of a breaking ball. Castro’s day would end in the 7th, swinging through a 1-2 breaking ball away in a tough left-on-left matchup. The senior demonstrates a great understanding of the strike zone, frequently getting in hitters’ counts. Creating good separation at the plate and showing quick hands through the zone, Castro consistently finds the barrel and makes solid contact. Defensively, Castro showed good range at 2B, a solid arm on DP turns, and made the routine plays look routine. A strong offensive profile and solid actions at 2B, Castro looks to be part of a vaunted 2-3-4 for De La Salle, with Spangler and Blair, as they begin to look towards the playoffs.

It was my first look at the Cal Poly commit and he displayed impressive tools in his offensive profile going along with smooth fundamentals on defense. Castro is a LHH hitter that looks the part at 2B with his athletic frame. He has smooth feet that are active, always putting his body in a good position to make a good throw. He made some nice plays in game and almost made a diving sliding play to his left that just went under his glove. He gets after it on defense and is a sure fit at 2B. In the box Castro is a LHH with the ability to spray the baseball around the field. He faced a lefty today and had good at-bats with a quality approach.He does a great job staying behind his front side that goes along with his quick hip rotation with a strong lower half. He consistently attacks the inner half of the baseball while getting extended through the zone.  Castro went 1-4 but made loud contact in all of his at-bats driving the baseball around the field. His hit came off a RHP that went to the RCF gap, getting on top of  FB/attacking the inner half. Castro can consistently repeat his swing, doing a great job at tracking the baseball the whole way into the zone with a middle-middle approach. Through 10 GP the Castro is batting with a .400 AVG and a .457 OBP as he looks to stay hot this season.
