The ace of the Wolverines staff for now two years and coming off a stellar showing at the 2025 Prep Baseball Future Games for Team SoCal, Kirchner has taken some strong forward steps this spring. Most notable in his development has been the uptick in velocity, which for me was up to 92 (above his 89 MPH peak at FGs) and has tickled the mid-90’s during earlier outings in the spring. The CB for Justin has ticked up with the added velocity now touching 80 MPH consistently with flashes of power in the vertical breaking shape, which he controls well, and is starting to find his command for the offering, throwing several quality ones down in the zone or below it. He mixed in a low 80’s CHG, which tunnels well off the downward movement profile for his FB, but with increased depth to induce chase or soft contact. Kirchner has long been a clean mover on the mound, but has added arm speed and feel for staying behind his front leg to better transfer force through the delivery while maintaining his direction to show strong present control with flashes of true command on each of his offerings. Just a junior, the forward progress to his overall development, Kirchner, who has long looked the part of a long-term starter with the ability to be durable, is now flashing some impact starter potential who can front a collegiate rotation or potentially more in the future.

Justin Kirchner, Harvard-Westlake (CA), 2027 Positional Profile: RHP/3B Two-way athlete with a balanced skillset that contribute on both sides of the ball. Body: 6-2, 201-pounds. Athletic, well-proportioned frame with existing strength and room for further physical development. Delivery: Operates exclusively from the stretch with a low glove setup. Utilizes a short leg kick paired with a controlled sink into the lower half to generate momentum downhill. Fluid movements throughout and a quick tempo, finishing with a long, aggressive stride that helps create extension while maintaining direction toward the plate. Arm Action: RH. Loose, fluid arm action from an over-the-top slot. Generates whip through release while maintaining a repeatable motion. FB: T86, 85-86 mph. Possesses above-average carry with heavy arm-side movement. Found success working to arm side against RHHs. Consistently around the plate for strikes. T2212, 2099 average rpm. SL: 76-78 mph. Tighter shape, paired with above-average spin, gives it late, sharp action that tunnels well off the FB. Designed more for late break than big sweep, allowing for location to glove-side and back foot vs LHHs. T2282, 2212 average rpm. CH: 80-81 mph. Low-spin profile with modest arm-side fade and variable vertical movement, giving it some shape versatility. Works best as a speed-change weapon off the FB, especially when killing spin to create late drop. T1600, 1228 average rpm.

Kirchner was the top ranked pitcher in attendance at the Future Games Tryout: Malibu and he made sure to show why during his five batter apperance. But, that wasn't the only side of the game in which Kirchner impressed putting together a strong showing as a RH hitting infielder. Checking in at 6'1 205.5 lbs. Kirchner continues to develop physically with impressive emerging strength while showing solid athletic ability including a 7.18 60 yard time and jumping 23.1" during the vertical jump. That athletic ability translates into a 86-87 MPH FB which he throws with spin rates approaching 2400 RPMs while dropping in an intriguing kick CHG he threw at 78-81 MPH with a high level of confidence to use it during any count while adding a 83-84 MPH sharp breaking SLD (almost cutter like) and for good measure showed a 78-81 MPH. Kirchner showed strong feel to throw his FB and CHG for strikes with flashes of his SLD/CB both working well to put together a strong showing. As good as what Kirchner did on the mound was his performance as a position player was equally impressive. His batting practice was loud with a a top end exit velocity of 99.3 MPH with a 362' max distance to the middle of the field while hitting 100% of his balls in the air plus picking up an in game hit. As well, his actions at 3B looked very strong showing good hands and a 83 MPH arm with accuracy across the diamond that he backed up with two impressive defensive plays during the game play portion.
