2/11/19 - Boston College recruit. Standing at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds he has a lean, athletic frame. Defensively, he is an athletic catcher with upside. Pop times ranged from 2.12-2.2 and should improve as the transfer continues to improve. Hands work and is a sound receiver. In the infield, he shows solid defensive actions and could see playing multiple positions. Offensively, he has a leg kick trigger and gets balanced on time. Could clear the back side better and with that can get rotational at times. The hands work and are quick, creating present bat speed. The strength also translates, but could even get more out of the lower half. Still generated an exit velocity of 90 mph with much more potential.
08/04/18- The 5-foot-10, 175 pound C/INF was one of the  bigger position player winners from the week. Roney is physical, with lean strength throughout the frame. Primarily a catcher, he has all of the tools to be an above average defender. The hands work well, has  athletic footwork, a clean transfer and pop times that ranged from 1.97-2.11. He also showed athleticism and some quick twitch in the infield. He has enough athleticism to play anywhere on the field. Offensively, he has present above average bat speed while staying compact through the zone. Exit velocity of 89 mph, he has a strong lower half, quick twitch and is aggressive through the zone. Overall, the athleticism and tools project well. Offensively, he has a chance to be a top of the order hitter and will be a high follow and shouldn’t be uncommitted long.
07/14/18- Uncommitted. Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds with a strong, solid frame. Showed above average all around defensive tools. In the infield, he has solid defensive actions and range. Behind the plate he is athletic with quick twitch actions. The hands work very well, haas present hip flexibility and an overall feel for the position. Offensively, he has a simple set up and swing. There can be a little length, but when he is compact he uses strength in the wrist and lower half to generate above average bat speed. Showed present barrel awareness and despite not getting a hit, he was on the barrel in both of his at-bats.
