In a funk offensively coming into the series, I was able to see the good and the not so good sides of Shelton. He did homer twice on Sunday, but for the most part he showed an indecisive swing which made his bat slow with a long and sweepy path. It’s a swing good for rolling over offspeed or being behind an average fastball by a foot. He does struggle with offspeed overall, batting just .205 against breaking balls and .136 vs. changeups. Against the fastball he mashes, slugging .875 this season. Overall, Shelton is now slashing .262/.390/.651 with 15 home runs. The draft-eligible sophomore has fallen out of the top 50 picks for me and is now more likely to be considered early on Day Two.
9/25/21
Alabama Commit, 6-foot-1, 182-pound strong athletic frame. Solid projectable during batting practice, Shelton had an exit velocity of 93 mph. (64.21 mph bat speed average). (20.24 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short controlled stride. Bat speed is electric, has a short upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid projectable showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 86 mph; had smooth athletic footwork, a clean natural exchange, and consistent soft hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a ¾ slot with a short arm action.

Positional Profile: SS/2B, Clemson, top left handed hitter in the Florida 2022 class. Body: 6-foot-1, 182-pounds. Has a strong, compact, tall, athletic build. Defense: Fields off center of body, presenting glove early with a two handed gather, showing fluid footwork. Arm: RH. INF - 86 mph. Strong, short, high 3/4 arm slot. Hit: LHH. Starts with a wide balanced setup, short buckled knee lift into a short stride. Quick/ late hand load, with some barrel tilt. Swings an uphill bat path, getting extension through swing with natural lift. Power: 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Gap to gap, power approach. Ball jumps off the barrel, above average pop, with above average bat speed. Run: 7.15 runner in the 60. Quick footed runner.

2022 committed to Clemson. 5-foot-11, 175 pound shortstop. Athletic build. Offensively, uses a short stride. Above average bat speed. Gap-to-gap line drive hitter. Found a ton of barrels and hit everything hard in BP. Defensively, has soft hands at short with an above average arm on throws to first.

Clemson commit. Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds with room for growth. Short and loose arm action on throws from the infield with above average arm strength with 85 velo. Soft and smooth hands with fluid footwork and clean exchange on plays with a quality first step. Has the actions and ability to be a well above average defender. Balanced setup at the plate with smooth load and above average bat speed with 88 exit velo. Level bat path with gap to gap type hitter with some pull side power. One of the most consistent hitters in his class. The swing is simple, but generates strength as he constantly stays on the barrel.
11/04/18
The 5-foot-11, 155 pound left handed hitting middle infielder stood out all weekend. Defensively, he has some present twitchy athleticism and a feel for the infield. Hands and feet work well together and works with rhythm. Really stands out offensively, where he has a simple swing with the same ability to work with rhythm. The path is slightly uphill and has ability to turn the barrell. Overall, the swing is compact and should continue to play up and will have a very high offensive ceiling as he continues to mature and add strength.
6/23/18
Currently stands at 5-foot-10, 150 pounds on a lean, athletic frame. Young middle infielder who will continue to see jumps in his overall game as he continues to fill out his frame and mature. Offensively, he starts from a slightly closed, wider stance in the box with above average bat speed for his age and quick hands. Consistently found the barrel from the left side of the plate during batting practice which resulted in multiple hard hit line drives, most notable into the gaps. Confident hitter who looks to drive the ball. Registered an exit velocity of 77 mph in the cage. In the field he shows bounce in his step with athletic, quick twitch actions. Fields the ball with confidence and makes the plays with an accurate throw to the bag that topped out at 75 mph. Clocked in at 7.38 seconds for his 60 yard dash time.
11/05/17
Worth noting the young left handed hitter jumped out at the end of a long day and at the end of batting practice with his rounds. He has a natural feel for the barrel and effortless swing from the left side. There are loose wrists and the bat will be fun to watch going forward.
