7/01/21

2021 MLB DraftA draft-eligible sophomore, Hickey was high school teammates with Tyler Callihan, the Reds' third-round pick in 2019. He's a bat-first catching prospect in the mold of Kyle Schwarber, as he struggles with blocking and receiving and his a longshot to stick behind the dish, but the power in his bat allows him to profile at first base. He has an advanced approach, seeing a lot of pitches and doing damage to all fields with quick hands.

2/11/19

Florida recruit. At 6-foot, 208 pounds he is barrel chested with a stocky thick build with present strength. Defensively, he is a solid all around catcher. Can continue to improve flexibility and consistency receiving, but has the tools and will continue to improve with reps. Where he really stands out is offensively. With the frame, you might think he was a power first, with some swing and miss from the left side, but when you watch him swing the power is there, but so is the feel to hit. He shows an advanced, simple approach, with the ability to work gap to gap. Has plenty of strength and power, especially to the pull side, with natural pull side loft. Overall, he has a chance to be a well above average, offensive catcher, which is a rare profile that will play well.

10/20/18

6-foot, 205-pound, left-handed hitting catcher, strong, thick frame. Continues to hit everything his barrel can reach and with power. Easy raw juice to the pull-side. Keeps things simple, natural loft to swing, powerful lower half at point of contact, explosive. Developing into one of the top power bats in the class. Collected seven hits in 17 at-bats over the weekend, including two doubles.

10/12/18 - Florida commit. 6-foot, 208-pound, left-handed hitting catcher, strength throughout frame. Offensively, balanced setup, short toe-tap stride, hands load back, stays tall, good balance through contact, explosive lower half and hip thrust at contact. Hits consistently for power, natural lift to swing. During BP peppered balls off and over the wall in right field, translated power to game play where he collected four hits, including a home run, in eight plate appearances. Put the ball in play with hard contact each at-bat. Behind the plate has quick, fluid motions, short arm action, over-the-top slot. Pop times ranged 2.00-2.12. Ran a 7.39 60.

8/23 - Hickey was impressive at the Warriors showcase. With a quick transfer, he had a pop time of 2.10 to 2B and 1.72 to 3B. A left handed hitter, Hickey squared up a good number of baseballs during his BP session. Keeping his barrel in the zone, Hickey’s swing plane produced plenty of line drives. The young, athletic framed Providence catcher stood out with his performance.
