2/16/16- 6-foot, 185-pound Florida State commit who has a lean and athletic body with strength. He continues to be one of the best hitting-infielders in the state as he went 2-3 with two walk and two RBIs tonight against East Lake. He has above average speed as he consistently runs a 6.7 in the 60 and he stole a couple of bases tonight. He showed good actions at shortstop but projects more as a second baseman. Either way, his bat is what will carry him the furthest in his career.
3/24/15 - Florida St commit. 6-foot, 170 pound infielder with a live athletic body. Made some hard contact today starting the game off with a double off the left field wall. Hit a deep fly ball for an out to deep center field. 1-3 today.
3/23/15 - Florida St commit. 6-foot, 170 pound infielder with a live athletic body. Plus runner. 4.18 to first base. Short compact swing with quickness in his hands. Didn’t do much today but made a lot of hard contact. Plays hard. Love his energy. Decent actions with plenty of arm for 2B. Can play multiple positions.
2/4 - FSU commit.  6-foot-0,175 pound infielder with a srong athletic live body. Has good actions with decent hands. A lot of quickness in the body. Quick hands and feet In the infield and takes good routes and angles to balls. Quick on the pivot. At the plate he has a slightly open stance, small leg kick, a good swing plane, and quick hands. Very aggressive approach with good bat speed. Has quiet hands, stays inside the ball and uses the whole field. Up-the-middle type approach. Is a tough out. Overall he has great instincts, plays aggressive, and is a spark plug at the top of the lineup. Against Clearwater he was 4-4 with a backside triple off the wall in right field.
1/10/15 Scorpions tryout - Good overall athlete. Live athletic body. Quiet hit approach. Takes the bat head to the ball and generates good bat speed with line drive power. Short compact quick stroke. Good hitters hands. Defensively, he showed some actions at short along with good carry on throws to first base. Offensive guy that is probably more suited for 2B.

Transferred from Geneva to IMG Academy in Florida after his sophomore year ...
4/8/14 - Ranked No. 3 in Illinois’ 2016 class, No. 10 overall. Committed to Florida State, national-level prospect. As a sophomore, the 6-foot, 180-pound Derr is already commanding respect. In four plate appearances, he was walked three times, including one of the intentional variety in the bottom of the seventh. He also singled through the 3-4 hole on a fastball on the outer-half of the plate. Top-level athlete; ran a 6.63 60 at the PBR Underclass Invitational.
1.19.14 - Verbally committed to Florida State. Highest-level athlete with high-level tool set. Set Illinois Underclass Invitational five-year record by running a 6.62 60. Physically advanced 6-foot, 180-pound frame, runs with power and grace. Extremely advanced offensive player; offensive prowess mature well beyond years. Explosive bat speed yet maintains excellent balance throughout. Advanced rhythm and timing in box, quiet mechanics, superior barrel whip through zone, ball jumps off bat with backspin carry, displays pull side power potential; recorded 92 mph exit velocity. Defensively, clocked at 82 mph across infield, ball carries; moves well laterally, longer arm action. With speed and athleticism, may develop into centerfielder at next levels. Three-sport standout athlete – football (quarterback) and basketball – scary to think where Derr will be when he focuses on one sport at next level.
Derr showcased as a fundamentally advanced Class of 2016 prospect. Derr showed impressive athleticism and fundamentals throughout the event. In the field, the 5-foot-10, 140-pound player showcased impressive actions and a solid arm across the field. Derr moved well laterally and exhibited good body control. At the plate, he continued to impress, with a short swing and quick bat that whipped through the zone. On the mound, Derr sat at 71-73 mph and topped at 74 mph with his fastball. He operated from a high arm slot and displayed downward action on his changeup.
