Selected 9th overall in the First Round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies
3/11/20
A Florida recruit, Veen has long been lauded for his hit tool and power projection and his offseason work is paying dividends so far. He added 20-25 pounds over the winter, allowing him to tap into his power potential so far this season. Through his first 10 games, including the Florida Preseason Classic, Veen is 14-for-31 with seven extra-base hits—three doubles, one triple and three home runs. As of right now, he has the best chance of being the first high school prospect off the board in the June.
10/08/18
UCF recruit. Veen, who has grown to 6-foot-3 and out of the middle infield, has seen his bat grown right along with him. He still stays compact and shows his bat to ball skills, but has leverage and added strength and po2wer. The bat really plays and will have a chance to have above average left handed power. Hit all weekend and should continue to do so.
6/12/18
UCF recruit continues to grow and fill out. May project better at third base, but the bat continues to play. Had a double and single, balanced and working more in sync. Has a feel to hit with power to come.
1/27/18
Central Florida recruit. Long and lean with athleticism standing at 6-foot-1, 160 pounds. Flashes explosive movements that should only become more prevalent as he matures. Offensively, he has a smooth left handed swing that mechanically, reminds you of Cody Bellinger. He generates advanced whip through the zone. Lots of offensive potential here and a chance for power as he continues to add to his frame. Registered an 89 mph exit velocity in the cage. In the field he shows athleticism and actions with an accurate arm across the diamond that topped out at 80 mph. Clocked in at 7.09 for his 60 yard dash time. High follow for the 2020 class
12/16/17
Looks to have grown 2-3 inches in the last few months. Still moves well in the infield, but could see sliding to third if he continues to grow and fill out. The bat works and still has a compact simple swing from the left side. It is slightly uphill with leverage and present pull power with high offensive potential.
6/21/17
Currently stands at 6-foot, 160 pounds the young wiry left handed hitting infielder showcased a pure left handed swing with gap to gap power. He has a highly projectable body with strong quick compact swing. Veen also is a plus runner great feel for the game. Defensively, he showed plus range with quick controlled feet and body movements. Could see him move to third base in the future as he continues to grow and become stronger. High follow/draft guy potential.
6/01/17
High waist, athletic frame, stands out in the infield. The actions worked well with a quick first step with above average hands. He does a great job of funneling the ball to his body with a quick transfer to release. All the actions and arm strength projects at short. Offensively, he shows some easy, rhythmic actions from the left side. He has a feel for the barrel, balanced lower half and has power potential as he continues to fill out. There is a lot of potential and will be a very interesting follow.
