6.14.17 - Drafted in the 40th round round by the Chicago White Sox.
5.31.17 - Michigan commit. 5-foot-10, 165-pound, left-handed pitcher. Came out of the bullpen and threw 1.1 innings, picking up the save. Did not allow a base runner and struck out three of the four batters he faced. Loose, quick arm from a ¾ slot. Went right after hitters with his fastball; filled up the strike zone, flashed late life and arm-side-run, sat 88-89 mph, touched 90. Mixed in a breaking ball at 72-75 mph. High-level 2017 left-handed pitcher.
2/14/16 - Michigan commit. 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed pitcher, slightly undersized with quick twitch arm. Athletic delivery, slightly coiled at the top of balance position, squared landing. Easy arm, projectable, loose and quick, ¾ slot. Fastball has running action, showed late life, control of the zone, 85-87 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, slight slurve action, flashed sharp action, 68-69 mph. Changeup thrown with fastball arm speed, firm 76-78 mph, has feel and kept down.
11.7.15 - Verbally commits to Michigan
9.19.14 - 5-foot-9, 150-pound left-handed pitcher/left-handed hitting outfielder impresses with legitimate two-way ability. Worked at 79-81 mph off the mound from quick, loose, high ¾ arm slot. Flashes 67 mph slurvy breaking ball, and 70-73 mph change. Repeats delivery well, athleticism evident throughout. Hits from a tall, narrow setup, slightly open, pull tendencies, above average bat speed.
10/27/13 - 5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic left handed pitcher with above average projectability for his age. Smith controls the mound well and has an advanced presence for his age, does everything with ease and confidence. Has tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, clean lines, athletic finish. Arm works short, loose, clean, with effortless acceleration that projects better velocity down the road. Fastball has cutting action, at an easy 77-80 mph. Breaking ball has flat, sweeping action, 65-66 mph. Changeup was straight, 74-78 mph. Smith is a high follow left handed pitcher in the Class of 2017.
