5/7/15 Louisville recruit, currently ranked No. 16 in Illinois’ 2016 class and No. 172 overall. Highly athletic 6-foot, 175-pound centerfielder, top-level defender, has all the necessary tools to stick in centerfield at next level. Plus arm strength (90 mph at Super 60) with carry and, above all, accuracy. Has quick release on throws and covers significant ground. Plays outfield with natural instincts. Made a shoe-string catch running in look pedestrian. Offensively, hits from slightly open setup, uses leg kick trigger, athletic, loose hands, rotational, aggressive approach. After grounding out in first at-bat, he delivered three consecutive hits on first-pitch fastballs. Finished 3-for-4 -with a double, RBI, and three stolen bases. All three hits were pulled to left side. Athleticism plays true on the bases as well. Gets out of the box well and runs the bases aggressively. (Ran a 6.76 laser-timed 60 at Super 60). Overall, he plays the game hard and with joy, which is why he is fun to watch.
1/22/12 Botsoe is a 6-foot, 175-pound two-way athlete who impressed in all aspects of the game. Using his wiry, projectable frame, Botsoe is an exciting prospect on the mound. Operating from a high 3/4 arm slot, Botsoe has a quick, whippy arm action, one that demonstrated excellent acceleration through his mechanics. He showed feel for three pitches: a 77-79 mph fastball that flashed some arm-side action, a breaking ball that was 65-69 mph, and a 68-70 mph changeup. Botsoe showed good rhythm and tempo throughout his mechanics. Defensively, Botsoe moved with fluidity in the outfield, taking exact routes to the ball. He exhibited a quick, accurate arm (82 mph). Additionally, Botsoe showed his athleticism by running a 7.23 60.
