4.15.16 - Arkansas commit, ranked No. 7 in the Illinois 2016 class and No. 79 overall. 6-foot-4, 225-pound, strong, physically advanced right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, strong swing, present bat speed and aggressive approach. Attacked a lot of first pitches, the most notable being the first pitch of the sixth inning. McFarland took the first pitch fastball in the sixth and deposited it deep over the left-center field wall, for a no-doubt homerun, which gave Waterloo a 1-0 lead. McFarland made a loud out in his second at-bat hitting a one-hop screamer to the third baseman. Ran a 4.43 on the groundout to third and slipped coming out of the box. Defensively, plays center-field and moves fluidly for someone his size. Arm action works short from an over-the-top slot; throws are true with sneaky carry and easy effort. Finished the day 1-for-3 with a home run. High 2016 draft follow.
2.7.16 Super 60 - Arkansas recruit. Physically advanced 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame, proportionally strong, developed forearms, strong hands, highly athletic for size. One of the more advanced right-handed power bats in the Midwest. Generates plus bat speed with little effort; mechanics are simple and quiet, yet the ball explodes off his bat; 97 mph exit velocity. Had erratic two rounds of BP at Super 60, but the handful of ones he caught right came off the bat differently than his right-handed peers. Runs well for his size and strength; registered a 6.85 laser-timed 60. Defensively he profiles as a left fielder, clocked at 83 mph from outfield.
2.15.15 - 6-foot-4, 225-pound strong and athletic right-handed hitting outfielder, Arkansas commit, impressed with strength, quick hands, and elite bat speed at the plate. Hits from an open setup, hands load back smoothly, short stride, simple approach, explosive bat speed, 96 mph exit velocity off the tee, short path, gets extension, consistently barreled the baseball, back spin line drives, plus hands on inner half. McFarland has surprising athleticism for his size, ran a 6.90 60. Defensively, threw 86 mph in the outfield from short, over-the-top arm slot with some accuracy and carry. Has the frame to carry more weight, power profile and size will likely fit at a corner outfield spot. McFarland took perhaps the best round of batting practice from the event, and is one of the top hitters in Illinois regardless of graduating class.
