Strong-framed at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds the right-hander pumped a 90-91 mph fastball throughout his pen, reaching back for a 92 mph bullet and then touched 93 mph on his last two pitches. His 24.2” of IVB max was the event’s best and he averaged 20.0”. His next best pitch was a 76-77 mph low-spin changeup in the 1400-1600 rpm range. Sampson also showed limited feel for a 77-78 mph slider, as well as a 68-69 mph curveball.
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed pitcher, athletic build. Delivery works on line, slight drop and drive, loose high ¾ arm action. Fastball sat 82-84 mph, touched 85 and 86 mph. Breakingball worked 11/5, 73 mph.
2.20.19 - 6-foot-2, 195-pound, right-handed pitcher, athletic, chiseled frame with strength. Repeats tempo, sturdy balance with sit on back side, works across body to home, toe lands open, with spin to first after release. Long arm action, full swing, loose out front with present quick arm speed, high ¾ slot, effort involved. Fastball, late run at the bottom of the zone, easy life out of the hand, 85-87 mph, topped 88 mph. Slider, 11/5 shape, flashed late break, mostly gradual, 62-65 mph. Changeup, early fade off the side of the hand, 68-71 mph.
2/10/19 - 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, strong athletic frame, sloped shoulders. Cross body delivery, drop and drive type, aggressive uptempo, lands hard and finishes to first base side. Arm action is long and loose, quick arm, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat 84-86 mph, showed feel, slight angle. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 66-68 mph, above average offering with gradual action. Changeup sinks, near fastball arm speed, 74-75 mph.
10.14.18 - 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, athletic frame. Delivery is deceptive, changes direction, works across body, finishes to first base side, some effort. Arm action is long, deep draw, high ¾ slot. Fastball plays lively at times, 85-86 mph, touched 87 mph. Curveball varies between 12/6 and 11/5, 61-62 mph. Changeup played best out of the stretch with down action, ranged 71-74 mph.
8.26.18 - 6-foot-2, 190-pound, right-handed pitcher, strong, athletic frame, projects. Short side step to tall, sturdy balance point, utilizes his frame, slight sit on back side, some extension down the mound, lands cross bodied, toe lands open, spins to first at finish. Long and loose arm action, quick arm speed, high ¾ slot, smooth rhythm in delivery. Fastball played straight with occasional cut, came out firm, 79-84 mph. Curveball, sharp depth at times, inconsistent shape, 61-67 mph. Changeup, faded hard at times, 70-75 mph.
