1st Team All State: Glenwood’s starting shortstop and ace righthander posted incredible numbers at the plate and on the mound in 2015. Maton hit .457 with 23 extra-base hits (11 doubles, eight triples, four home runs), while posting 28 RBI, and 45 runs scored. He also stole 20 bases, and posted an impressive .584 on base percentage, showing plate discipline with 30 walks and only eight strikeouts on the year. On the mound, Maton led the Titans going 8-0 with a 0.67 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched. He only allowed 23 hits, struck out 92 and walked 14. Glenwood finished the year 34-5 ranked No. 22 in the final PBR Power 25 poll. For his efforts, Maton was drafted in the 40th round of the MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He will attend Eastern Illinois if he does not begin a professional career.
4/23/14 Ranked No. 62 in Illinois’ 2015 class; No. 297 overall. Athletically built 6-foot-1 left-handed hitting shortstop. Shows natural middle infield actions, easy hands, quick-clean transfer, moves fluidly and fields the ball in rhythm. Arm shows solid carry across infield; makes accurate throws on the move. Offensively, has simple left-handed swing. Lined single up the middle to lead off first inning. Ran a 4.32 home-to-first on a 4-3 putout.
2/16/14 Projectable 6-foot-1, 160-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Natural middle infield actions; has quick, clean transfer, ball carries across infield, 81 mph, highly accurate, short, athletic arm action. Shows advanced body control, fields ball in rhythm, hands and feet work well together. Offensively, has simple, handsy line-drive approach. Has short, level bat path, minimal stride, quiet mechanics, bat stays flat through zone. Maintains good balance throughout, above-average bat speed, 84 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.00 60. High-follow prospect in Illinois 2015 class.
10/20/13 - Projectable frame, 6-foot-1, 160-pound left hand hitting infielder. One of the more projectable prospects in attendance. Defensively he showed athletic movements with soft hands and quick exchanges. Throws with a short arm, quick release, gets solid carry at 78 mph. Ran a 7.12 60. At the plate he has a tall, slightly open stance with a short stride. Maintains balance in the swing with a short bat path and extension, line drive type swing. Exit velocity was 84 mph off a tee.
