2/17/13 - The 6-foot-2, 175-pound right-hander was one of the biggest sleepers at the Preseason All-State Showcase. Previously unknown to us heading into the event, Beine opened eyes with his advanced feel and command for four pitches. He’s smooth, rhythmic and athletic in his delivery, and repeats well. His fastball ranged between 83-84 mph with sink. He throws a slider and curveball; his slider showed potential to be a go-to outpitch, as it demonstrated consistently sharp two-plane break in the 71-72 range. He also threw his 70-73 mph changeup for strikes with some arm-side action. Overall, while Beine’s velocity wasn’t near the top at the event, his pitchability was one of the best.
