4.20.15 - Currently ranked No. 22 in Illinois’ 2017 class; one of the premier two-way prospects in state. Physically advanced 6-foot, 190-pound athlete, muscular lower half and shoulders. Will undoubtedly be recruited for his left-handed abilities on the mound, but shows considerable potential at the plate. Right-handed hitter, quiet, simple approach, slightly open setup and consistently gets square. In game, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. He had an especially impressive at-bat against Shane Ritter, fouling several pitches off before lacing a double to right field on an 88-mph fastball. Also inside-outed a pitch to right-center, and legged out infield single (4.38 home-to-first). Plays left field with confidence. Tracks balls well and covers ground with strong arm. Pitched one inning of relief. Consistently sat 84-85 with fastball; pitch has natural arm-side life from high 3/4 slot. Clean, easy arm action, works fast and confidently. Overall, high-level two-way prospect.
4.8.15 - 6-foot, 190-pound lefthander, strong lower half, physical frame, middle linebacker in football. Works from a short, clean, quick, high ¾ arm slot, big leg kick from the windup, foot gets outside knee, toe up at balance point, good athlete repeats delivery, stride direction in line with home plate, shoulders stay level throughout delivery, lands square at foot strike. Fastball sat 84-87 mph early on, rides in on right-handed hitters when pitching to glove side. Fastball still 81-84 in seventh. Curveball ranged from 68-72 mph, 1/7 shape, not a power breaking ball yet, but has feel for strikes. Flashed change in between innings, did not see in game. Offensively, hits from a slightly open stance, slight crouch, line drive single over shortstop in first at bat. Short, compact swing, strong kid, pull approach. Ground ball single to short in third at bat.
9.19.14 - Physically strong 6-foot, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, right-handed hitting outfielder, wide shoulders, strong lower half currently ranked No. 12 in Illinois’ 2017 class. Mettetal hits from an open stance, high hands, showing impressive power to right-center during batting practice. Throws 80 mph from the outfield. Impresses on the mound, sitting 82-83 mph touching 84 with plus run on his fastball. Flashes 65-68 mph curveball, and 71-72 mph changeup. Plays defensive end/tight end on the varsity football team, and looks to be an extreme competitor.
