Currently ranked No. 53 in the Illinois’ 2028 class. 6-foot, 168-pound, right-handed pitcher with a wiry, upside frame. Clean and athletic mover down the mound, repeats extremely well and stays balanced at foot strike. Loose, clean arm action, high ¾ slot. Dominated in his brief stint. Struck out both batters he faced and landed 6-of-9 pitches for strikes. Fastball sat 83-84 mph, played mostly straight and showed a 70 mph curveball with 2100+ rpm as his out-pitch. One of the more polished arms in the 2028 class with plenty more velocity to come.

RHP Matt Morris (Triad, 2028) emerged as a high-follow arm in Illinois during our 2025 preseason events, and he continued to look the part of a top arm in the state’s sophomore class last week. Morris stands in an athletic, high-waisted frame with seemingly more projection still to come. His delivery has easy actions and minimal effort down the mound, paired with a loose arm out of a ¾ slot. His ability to control his three-pitch mix stood out during his bullpen this fall, showing an advanced ability for his age to throw each pitch in and around the zone. His fastball sat in the low-80s throughout his ‘pen, and he mixed in a curveball at 67-71 mph with an average of -5.5 inches of induced vertical break, and an average of -12.8 inches of horizontal movement. He rounded out his arsenal with a low-70s change-up. Morris will continue to be a name to circle in Illinois.

RHP/C Matt Morris (Triad, 2028) emerged as a big winner in his event debut this winter. He stands in an upside, 6-foot, 160-pound frame with a high waist and long levers. On the mound, he’s a loose mover with athletic action and a quick arm, showcasing a fastball up to 81 mph. His slider sat 70-71 mph with short, horizontal actions, looking like an out-pitch potential type. He finished his ‘pen with a low-70s change-up that he threw with intent and confidence, working it down in-and-below the zone with quality actions. Offensively, he is one to watch as well with a loose, easy right-handed swing that is tailored for elevated contact while staying up the middle of the field.
