2017 Spring Scout Blog:  The Arizona State commit showcased smooth and easy actions across the diamond. The 6'2" 180 pound senior fills out the uniform and looks like a next level athlete. Quick twitch athlete had strong arm across the diamond with good footwork and glove to field. Hands work well out in front to field and transfer quick to release. Arm action is low 3/4 and electric. Couple errant throws in game getting caught flat footed and front shoulder up to sail. Plus arm and defensive skill set, advanced infielder who has size and bat to stay on left side of infield in the future. Athletic, fast-twitch from the right side in the batters box. Has rhythm and creates good separation with hands and barrel, gets on plane with pitch consistently to drive and lift the baseball. Got a little too steep in game on a couple swings. Has pull side power to left. Lower half is strong through swing and stays connected throughout. Plus runner. Athletic prospect who has plus skills for a bright future at the next level.

The Arizona State commit finished the evening going 1-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored.  In his first AB hit a soft liner to the right side of the infield.  In the second AB pulled a ball down the 3B line for a double.  In the final AB flew out to CF.  Coffey, ranked No.3 in Indiana's 2017 class and the No. 1 overall SS in the class, possesses quick-twitch athleticism with wiry strength at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Offensively, hits from an athletic, slightly open setup.  Gets good separation, long path, quick bat speed.  Glides on the base paths.  Athletic defender with soft hands, fields the baseball out front.  Plus arm strength across the diamond, moves well laterally. Made a couple of athletic plays in the field last night including throwing a runner out from deep in the hole at SS off a backhand. Ran a 6.68-60 yard dash at a PBR event in the winter of 2016 and a 6.70 at the Super 60 this past February. Coffey has garnered attention from scouts throughout the spring, including having multiple cross-checkers at his games.

Feb 2017 Super 60:
Arizona State recruit. 6-foot-2, 180-pound shortstop, athletic frame with wiry strength. Put himself on the national radar in a big way at the Super 60. Features electric tools across the board. Quick-twitch athlete, showcased plus arm strength across the infield, registering an event-best 93 mph. Moves well laterally, fields the ball out front, athletic hands and arm action, ball carries with accuracy. Athleticism evident by his 6.70 laser-timed 60. Offensively, right-handed hitter, athletic, slightly open setup, generates explosive bat speed, takes overall aggressive hacks. Excellent pre-pitch rhythm, gets good separation, longer path, maintains balance through contact, pull-side approach with power potential. Registered 94 mph exit velocity off the tee.
