2/23/2019: Austin Bode, C/OF, Columbus North HS, 2021, 5 foot 10, 185 pounds, posted an exit velo of 96 mph with plus bat speed and balance. Hits slightly open from left side and uses controlled leg lift to load and has good separation at launch position. Barrel gets on plane and consistently barrels balls to middle of the field. Shows good actions behind the plate with good footwork. Threw 77 mph from the crouch and had pop times of 1.93-1.97. Left handed hitting catchers with power are not easy to find, nice job by Louisville on this commit.
2/24/18: 5-foot-10, 150 pound catcher continues to impress behind the plate with his soft hands and quick release. Short arm action and accurate throws topping 76 with pop times between 1.97-2.06. In the batters box, Bode showcased legitimate pull side power with ability to use all fields. Slight crouch in a balanced setup. Smooth load, short stride. Compact swing. High contact hitter. High exit velocity of 87. Louisville commit.
9/17/17 PBR FALL CHAMPIONSHIPS: The young backstop receives with soft hands while presenting a wide target and is nimble behind the plate. Bode’s presence in the box makes him seem larger than his 5-foot-10, 150-pound listed size. He crouches down in an athletic stance before squaring off with a reverse toe tap with his hands fluently loading down and back into a power position before exploding through the zone with a short stride. He laced a single up the middle and shows a flat barrel through the zone with gap-to-gap power. There was no questioning his threat each time he stepped to the plate.
8/2/17 PBR FUTURE GAMES:Bode showed quick, powerful hands at the plate from the left side with proportional strength throughout his developing frame.
