Position: C/RHP
Body: 5-foot-11, 185-pound solid physical build.
Hit: (RHH) Began in an open quiet stance with a tight load, then used a quick leg kick stride. Quick efficient bat speed. Good extension on his finish, flat rotational swing. Tough out approach.
Power: 96 mph exit velocity, average 79.24 mph. 75.72 mph bat speed average. 22.32 mph hand speed average.
Defense: (C) 1.93-2.07 pop times. Firm hands. Had staggered setup.
Arm: 89 mph outfield velocity. 82 mph catcher velocity. Short arm action, an-over-the-top slot, consistent accuracy.
Speed: 7.35 (60-yard).
Pitching: Slow-tempo delivery, high effort. over-the-top arm angle, longer arm action. Uphill shoulders.
FB: T86. 83-85 mph. (Max spin 2147; Avg 1960). Tailing action.
CB: 66-67 mph. Very consistent command, 12/6 shape. (Max spin 2023; Avg 2021).
Carmel High School, Class of 2022; 5-foot-10, 160-pound C/RHP. At the plate, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 83 mph. Starts in a balanced stance with his hands low in front of his body; wraps his hands slightly in his load. Showed a level swing plane and a high, one-handed finish. While in the infield, he made throws at velocities up to 76 mph. Moved well laterally at shortstop and showed clean footwork while throwing from an over-the-top angle. From the outfield, he made throws at velocities up to 82 mph. Showed athletic ability and attacked the ball; had a clean transfer and strong throws. While catching, his pop time was 2.12; he made strong, efficient throws to second at velocities up to 76 mph. He has a narrow stance and a consistent transfer. He showed some raw actions while receiving; most throws were accurate. In the 60-yard dash, he recorded a time of 7.43. On the mound, he has a slow windup and uses a short arm action. Keeps his fastball up in the zone and his breaking ball low. His breaking ball produced swing-and-misses and ground balls; he created many groundball outs during the game. He sat with his fastball at 77-78 mph and topped out at 79 mph. He showed the most control on his curveball (62-64 mph) when he stayed on top. He keeps hitters off balance when he locates his changeup (68-71 mph) low in the zone.
2/23/2019: Caden Overbey, C/RHP, Carmel HS, 2022, 5 foot 10, 160 pounds, uses small leg lift to load with good rhythm. Connects lower half in swing well and had an exit velo of 81 mph. Head gets too far forward at times, future strength should help balance and power at the plate. Behind the plate showed pop times of 2.08-2.19, and also showed good arm strength for his age while throwing 76 mph with good arm action. Sets up too tall in his secondary stance, otherwise does show some athleticism behind the plate. On the mound Caden throws from a high ¾ slot and long arm action. FB was straight at 72-74, CB was 59-60, and CH was 61-64.
6/5/18: Young 2022 prospect hits from right side tall open setup. Long stride with leg kick. Bat speed was average and tended to drag through the zone with a long bat path. Pitches from H 3/4 arm slot, slow tempo and choppy rhythm to the plate. Velocity of all 3 pitches are average to below and should jump once body develops and strength is added.
