On the mound pitches from a high ¾ slot with average arm speed. Shows a wrap in his arm action. Good direction to the plate, tends to fall off when he finishes. Inward turn with his front leg. Fastball sat 76-80. Changeup was 67-68. Knuckle ball was 59-63.
2/23/13: 5-foot-10, 170 pound sophomore was 80 mph from the OF. At the plate starts closed and wraps his bat during his load. Partial use of the lower half. Bat speed is average with a level swing path. Shows some stiffness in his rhythm.
Small statured 5-foot-10,170 pound lefty. The sophomore works with a side step into an inward turn and opens up at landing. The left creates deception with the activity in his delivery. Phelps was 79-81 and threw his slider at 69-70.
