2/16/2019: Evan Etchison, RHP/1B, Daleville HS, 2020, 6 foot 1, 210 pounds, is a proven strike thrower that helped lead Daleville HS to a state title last spring. He showed feel for 3 pitches from a high ¾ slot and medium clean arm action. FB was straight and sat 78-82, CB had good spin and 11/5 shape and sat 70-71. CH had fade life at 71-72 mph. If Evan makes a velo jump, his feel to pitch will take him to another level.
7/10/18: Thick/strong build 2020 RHP. Pitches from high ¾ arm slot. Tempo to plate is quick throughout delivery. Arm action is short with some looseness. Stays in line throughout and lands in line slightly up right. FB sat 78-80 with occasional arm side life. BB flashed some depth for strikes at 60-62. Did tend to slow arm down when spinning it. Showed feel for a CH at 67-70 with fade.
5/2/18: 6-foot-1, 205 pound sophomore got the start on the bump, scattered six hits and four runs over 6.1 innings, striking out three hitters and allowing zero walks. Attacked the strike zone with good command early, threw a lot of strikes to get ahead of hitters, ran out of gas in the 6th inning. Big, physical frame, works quick and fields position well, regular effort in the delivery that is repeatable, high 3/4 arm action with slight stiffness in the arm swing. Good direction with shoulders and front side down the mound. Fastball was heavy down in the zone, 78-81, created some downhill tilt, stayed at the bottom of the zone early in the game. Breaking ball was better in game, thrown with better arm speed at 64-65, gradual break 10/4 shape with command. Ground ball pitcher, needs to add more velocity next couple seasons, continue to develop swing and miss pitches.
7/11/17: 6-foot-1, 198 pound RHP pitches from a long high 3/4 arm action with average arm speed. Has some stiffness in the arm swing. Average balance with some effort and rhythm in the delivery. Shoulders are closed. Stays in line, lands square. Fastball sat 73-75 with slight run. Breaking ball currently lacks shape at 58-61. Slows the arm down on the CH. CH sat 63-64 with occasional fade.
