In my evals, this was the highest ceiling '27 arm at the event, and he showed hints of that ceiling throughout his stint this past weekend. Easily filling the zone at 84-87 with a fastball that averaged 16" of IVB, an evaluator in attendance made the comment "this kid could throw 3 mph harder right now" - and that comment stuck with me. While the radar gun is often the measuring stick, velocity is arguably the easiest thing we can develop, and there is truly a lot left in the tank with this young-for-class prospect. Regardless, his ability to compete over the white with the heater, and the athleticism/upside in the frame is what I value most. Jaylen flashed a tight, firm, short slider at 78-81 mph that was his go-to secondary offering, also showing a gradual, low-70s CB, and a usable change at 78-79

Wells-Henderson is an elite athlete that burned a 6.62 60-yard dash to begin the day & is also a standout track star. He stands at a slender, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds. The delivery oozes athleticism with an up-tempo pace & a loose, short arm following to a high 3/4 to 3/4 release point. The fastball played in the low-to-mid 80s (T 85) & he flashed a sinker in the low-80s. His arsenal includes a 73-75 slider with some shape, a 68-70 curveball that plays with depth and gradual break, and a 73-74 cut-change. He showed feel for all in this looks & holds starters' upside.

The top-ranked arm in the class provided a high upside look at the All-State, flooding the zone with a future-starter's mix. The long-levered, athletic, 6-foot-3, 175 pound frame is one to dream on and Jaylen showed his athleticism by turning in a 6.89 60 time. The arm works with an easy-effort whip to a 3/4 release point, and he sat 83-85, touching 86 mph on his best bullet. The frame + athleticism & arm action makes it easy to project the fastball velocity to reach 90 mph sooner rather than later. Wells-Henderson showed a short slider at 77-78 mph, along with a curveball at 68-72 mph with depth, and he 'pulled-the-string' on a 73-75 mph changeup that was executed down in the zone and thrown with fastball arm speed. The ceiling is uncapped for this young arm and should be an exciting follow over the next four years.
