+ OF Shane Bardwell (Homestead): I saw Bardwell hitting out of the leadoff spot and playing right field on opening night. The strong, 6-foot, 200-pound left-handed hitter went 2-for-2 with a single through the middle and an infield hit to the left side, beating it out with a 4.2 down the line. He hits from a taller, open stance with a slight forward drift, and the swing is direct with a level, sometimes steep path. A more contact-oriented approach than I have previously seen in this look. Bardwell is off to a solid start to his junior year, totaling a handful of hits with a couple of extra-base knocks. The arm plays from the outfield, as well. The left-handed hitter remains one of the top uncommitted bats on our board.

The strong, stocky, 6-foot, 200-pound physical frame jumps out at you, as does the strength at impact. Bardwell reached peaks of 103-plus while hitting from a pre-coiled, athletic setup and deploying a direct path that works out-front with occasional steepness. The swing is very playable and has fit more the contact-oriented mold previously, so the elevation of the bat strength, along with another tick-up in foot speed (6.70) should allow for a tier jump in our next update. Fits in center where he played for top-ranked Homestead as a sophomore; swiped 27 bags at the varsity level last spring.

Bardwell also brought a more-physical looking frame and continues to trend as one of the strongest hitters in the class. There is intriguing upside in the 5-foot-11, 190 pounders' profile. He hits from the left-side with exits reaching 99-plus and an above average run time to pair (6.86). The swing features a heavy, ambush-style forward move with the hands creating some stretch as they load to a lower launch. There is power potential in the operation, but the overall feel to hit needs to continue to polish.

We got our first showcase look at Bardwell after he stood out on the circuit this summer, and I walked away impressed with the physical, 5-foot-10, 185 pounder. Bardwell showed off a short, flicky swing with impact behind the barrel to the tune of mid-90's exit velocities and his 7.0 run time allows for speed/power upside. Bardwell should make an impact for Homestead this spring and is undoubtedly a '27 LHH to keep tabs on.
