Position: LHP/1B
Body: 6-foot-3, 200-pound physical frame
Hit: Began in a closed stance with a small load, then used a short stride to start his swing. Raw bat speed. Level finish, level swing.
Power: 96 mph exit velocity. aggressive approach.
Defense: Infield, Sure hands, athletic footwork, developing exchange. Projectable.
Arm: 84 Infield velocity. Short arm action, high ¾ slot, decent accuracy.
Speed: 7.01
Pitching: Projectable. Slow-tempo delivery, easy effort. ¾ arm angle, some arm speed, short arm action. Athletic balance point, even shoulders, lands soft, an upright finish.
FB: T87. 83-86 mph. Tailing action, arm side accuracy, sharp movement.
CB: 71-73 mph. Sinking action, low in the zone command, sharp movement.
CH: 75-79 mph. Fading action, low in the zone control.
SL: 73-75 mph. Sinking action, in the zone control.
2019 INDIANA STATE GAMES: Cincinnati commit stands 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and is a presence when standing on the hill. The lefty is big and strong with a strong lower half that is used well to generate an 82-86 fastball with some run action. Curveball was not great today and thrown with a bit of a stiff wrist but keep hitters off balance 74-76. Probably will develop into an effective slider and we saw better this winter. Throws from a quick ¾ arm angle with average balance and normal effort. Some rhythm and a decent finish. Still very raw mechanically but there is a lot to like. A high follow over the summer and the next two years.
2/23/2019: Thomas O’Connor, LHP/1B, Mooresville HS, 2021, 6 foot 3, 200 pounds, is a great combination of size and athleticism on the mound. Throws from a ¾ slot and medium arm action. Has good ASR on the fastball and it sat 83-86. Curveball was short and tight and sat 75-77 and has the makings to be a plus slider down the road. Changeup has good arm side fade and sat 77-79. With his body, athleticism, and arm speed it appears easy to project there is much more in the tank as far as velocity and command. His raw stuff on the mound is very intriguing. At the plate you see a very physical toolsy left handed hitter that is still raw. Balance and barrel angle at launch need to improve to add consistency to his offensive game, but his raw power showed as he had an exit velo of 97 mph.
