Matheny has explosive bat speed with a slightly uphill path. He displays the ability to drive the baseball. His swing shows a lot of quick twitch. His exit velocity is up to 96. Pop time was 1.95-2.03 with velocity at 78. His footwork is good and exchange was sound. Pop times could get better with a more efficient exchange. Makes up his shortcomings with arm strength. He receives well behind the plate. Matheny will be moving up the 2017 rankings based on his consistent development.

11.7.15 5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitter who ran a 6.92 60-yard dash and posted an 85-mph exit velocity. Starts from an open stance and body drifts forward with stride to square. Swing has some length plus bat speed, and he showed pullside power potential while barreling the baseball throughout his BP round. Defensively, he exhibited solid receiving and blocking ability, in addition to a quick transfer and short arm action that led to pop times of 2.12-2.25 and 72-mph arm strength from the crouch.
11.1.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Ran a 6.99 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced, slightly open set up. Quick leg kick in load. Level, uphill swing with some extension. Nice lower half and balance throughout. Exit velocity of 87 mph. Sticks ball well behind the plate with athletic set up. Higher set up when throwing down to second. Quick feet and exchange on throws. Short arm action from ¾ arm angle. Catcher velocity of 74 mph and pop time as low as 1.97.
6.30.15 - Quick feet and exchange from behind the plate. Gains ground on throws. Throws had some carry on them at 73 mph. Pop time ranged from 2.03 to 2.13. Better posture on throws could increase velocity. Average hands receiving and shows some body control behind the dish. Hits from a slightly open set up with a simple stride. Level swing path with some bat speed. Gets slightly uphill at times on swing. Gets lower half into swing. Has balance and occasionally will get out of balance. Gap-to-gap style hitter that with potential pull side pop. 4.69 home to first and 84 mph exit velocity Good foundation to build on in the 2017 class.
6.24.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 175-pounds. Clean exchange and gets rid of the baseball with a velocity of 74 mph translating to a 2.01 – 2.06 pop. Nice base receiving with soft hands. Moves hips well for balls in dirt. Offensively hits from an open stance with a smooth load. Longer strides gets lower half involved in swing. Has some bat speed with a short path that can get uphill at times. Shows potential pull side pop with a gap-to-gap hitting style.
