Tanner is a shutdown backstop with a 70-grade arm and high level receiving and blocking skills. He has great presence behind the plate and is a leader who manages a pitching staff with ease. In the batter's box, the 6-foot, 220-pound right handed hitter possesses big strength and above average bat speed that produces plus raw power to all fields, and even more to his pull side. With a flat swing he struggles to turn his raw power into game production (.165 ISO) and currently looks just to make contact, producing more hard ground balls rather than lifting the ball for over the fence production. Tanner went 5-for-13 at the plate against Florida with three RBI and a walk. He currently ranks 12th in SEC only games with a .340 batting average. His exit velocities were impressive all weekend with several in the 100s, including a best of 107 mph on ground ball single during Saturday's game. Overall, Tanner is a low risk pick with a high floor and has a strong likelihood of reaching the Major Leagues.

Although not in nearly the same category offensively as any of the above prospects, Tanner is a shutdown backstop with a 70-grade arm and elite receiving and blocking skills. In the batter’s box, the 6-foot, 220-pound righthanded hitter showed great strength and plus raw power to his pull side, but with an around the ball, hooking swing, any offense he musters will be an added bonus. Tanner has great presence behind the plate and is a leader who manages a pitching staff with ease. He also called his own game and has the potential to become a late first-round pick based defensive abilities alone.

Strong 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame with broad shoulders. Short and quick arm action into high-3/4 release, with some deception in delivery. Worked with a slow rhythm, in-line direction while landing closed. Fastball has sinking action and commanded down in zone at 85-88 mph, touching 90 mph. Flashed a slider with solid spin and action at 73-75 mph. Catcher with average hands, quick transfer, quick footwork into his short arm stroke with some effort. Posted pop times of 1.95-2.07 with accuracy and carry. Right-handed hitter, hits from a wide base and simple leg lift load. Gap-to-gap approach with bat speed and strength in swing.
