7/20/21

An intriguing breakout prospect this summer, Cavenaugh smacked eight homers as a 2YR FR this spring for UNCG, but hit just .230 in 178 at-bats. But he’s made consistent hard contact this summer for Harwich, batting .345/.431/.460 with seven doubles and 12 RBIs in 87 at-bats. He’s also shown dramatically improved pitch selection, with 11 walks against 14 strikeouts. With a medium build at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Cavenaugh has strength and athleticism with good speed that has helped him swipe seven bases. He has a simple, compact lefthanded stroke and showed the ability to square up frequent hard line-drive contact from center field to the pull side. He showed the bat speed to turn on good fastballs, but also turned in competitive at-bats but fouling off repeated offspeed pitches. One such long battle resulted in a two-run homer on a slider. Cavenaugh appears to fit best defensively in left field, so he’ll need to hit for both power and average next spring to secure his status in the top 10 rounds, but this summer was an encouraging sign for his development.

Lenoir-Rhyne commit.  6 foot, 180-pound athletic build. Hits from the left side using a balanced, athletic setup.  Smooth load with a short stride staying balanced throughout his swing.  Keeps it simple with little movement showing feel for his barrel.  Loose hands allow for some barrel whip through the zone.  Good rounds of batting practice finding his barrel a lot with a line drive approach working gap to gap.  Exit velocity recorded at 81 mph. Athletically plays through balls in the outfield with fluid feet and soft hands.  Shorter, fluid arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Positional velocity peaked at 77 mph.  Recorded a 4.05 in the 30-yard dash, and 4.77 in the 5-10-5.

7.18.17.
5-foot-10, 158 pounder turned in a 7.12 sixty.  Left handed hitter begins open, using an aggressive stride back to even.  Bat head starts flat and works level through the zone searching for extension.  Pull heavy rounds in BP, cutting across the ball at times.  Better than average bat speed from a fluid swing.  Lacked solid barrel ability.  Exit velocity topped at 76.
