10/21/18 - A developing, 6-0, 160, Kottinger has an athletic build, sloped shoulders with room for weight and strength increases.  In the outfield, he is confident and capable, employing solid actions.  He is sound on catch and exchange with a good arm, resulting in online throws.  Kottinger likes to take that extra shuffle in the outfield to gear up and use his arm strength to make his throws.  Time could be made up with improved, more efficient footwork.  At the plate, he crouches a bit with both knees bent evenly, moving to a leg kick with wide stride and an uphill swing.  Because most of his load comes from the lower half, more separation can be had and would likely flatten his path just enough.  He makes consistent contact but doesn’t create enough carry on fly balls to project power in his power approach. On the mound, Kottinger is a three pitch mix type who repeats his delivery. He utilizes a high leg lift and at balance point has a little backward tilt.  He drifts a bit but has solid area control.  He commands his fastball to both sides of the plate and shows occasional arm side life.  His curve ball has tight spin with consistent depth and flashes bite.  Kottinger’s displays good feel for changeup with sink.  Velocity increases will yield a rotational starter at the next level, command over stuff.
