81-83 with 75 mph slider. Competitive reliever at the next level as the slider is plus. The delivery need revamping as he is way too quick down the mound and his arm gets away from him. Unsigned Sr. Showcase (October 30, 2016)
Cady stands 5-foot-10, 180-pounds with a thick strong body frame with broad shoulders. On the mound hes uses a quick pace to his delivery, hands stay high following the knee above the belt line. Stays compact on the drive-line with proper direction towards home, front side firm. Arm-action is back with a clean quick arm-circle, releases from a high-3/4 slot with signs of hand-speed on the fastball. Fastball sat 80 mph, topping 82, some signs of more to come. Curveball checks in at 70-71 with 2/7 late shape, tough on a lefty when not loose out of the hand. Overall, there's clear-projection at the next-level. Velocity has a chance to increase a few ticks over the next year, curveball needs more consistency but spin and shape are present, and there's some athleticism to his arm even-though the build is more thick and strong. Expect to see Cady with a commitment sooner than later.
Preseason All-State (February 28, 2016)
Cady is a prime example of continued hard-work paying off - in short period of time. Third time seeing the junior lefty from the greater Albany area, and each time we were able to see growth. Pitching - standing 5-foot-10, 175-pounds with a strong lower-half, starting with somewhat of a methodical pace to his delivery before he drives towards home. Knee loads above his belt, arm action is shorter with above average hand-speed. Releases the fastball from a high-3/4 slot, arm side run, topping out at 82 mph, sitting 79-80 which is up from his last event (Jan, 2016) where he maxed 78. Curveball spins with 1/7 shape from the shorter arm-action sitting 68-72 with a consistent break, some sharper than others. Overall Cady continues to get better, leaving little doubt that we have seen his best yet.
NY State Open ID (January 31, 2016)
John checks in at 5-foot-10 180 pounds. The OF/LHP ran a 7.26 60 with a 4.04 home-to-1B. Offensively- John sets up with an even stance with deep flexion in his knees, hands sitting low and off his back shoulder at the end of his take back. Uses a short stride while he stays back into contact. Front side is open early with a quick recoil at the end of his swing. Quick hands and wrists into the zone. Exit velocity was down a notch today at 78 MPH. Line drive/pull side results. Defensively- In the outfield John takes a conservative approach on the ground, breaking down to one knee. Stays behind the ball in the air and works through an aggressive crowhip. Arm strength plays well at 80 MPH. Pitching- John sets up to his arm side on the rubber using a leg drive to a mid chest point. Arm action stays long out of the glove, working through a 3/4 slot with some late acceleration. Stride lands open to the 3B side causing a slight spin off in that direction. Saw some velocity gain with his fastball, sitting 78-79 MPH. Fastball stays down with some late arm side action but still can get back to his glove side effectively. Breaking ball had more slider shape to it a 71-72 MPH, can occasionally work underneath and have it back up. Would like to see development more of a change up as any next level LHP will need to navigate 6-7 RHH hitters in a lineup. Under the radar arm who's stock is growing.
Eastern NY All-Star Game (September 13, 2015)
Stands at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, with an athletic body build. Defensively - In the outfield, he has a good approach through the ball, throws with a high 3/4 arm to over the top arm action, plays through the ball, and has accuracy on the target. Pitching - On the mound, he uses a simple side step, balanced delivery, arm action is fairly clean and loose, throws with a high 3/4 arm to over the top arm slot. He exhibits good command with a fastball max at 77 MPH. Offensively - At the plate his setup is relaxed and balanced, short leg kick stride, with a back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging with a little uphill tilt but straight to the ball, with long/full extension through the ball.
