Cape Cod: Vetrano arrived in Chestnut Hill two years ago as a heralded two-way recruit, but after his breakout sophomore year with the bat, his future now appears clear: he's a hitter. Vetrano batted .308/.386/.572 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs for the Eagles this spring, then held his own with a .243 average along with five homers for Harwich, just two long balls off the league lead. At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Vetrano is a physical presence in the lefthanded batter's box, and his power plays to all fields — we saw him hit an opposite-field grand slam on a 91 mph fastball on the outside corner. Vetrano has a quiet approach in the box but has some length to his swing and needs to prove he can handle high-end velocity. He's a below-average runner but a good athlete for his size and should be able to defend ably at first base, which is where he profiles. Vetrano has All-America upside as a junior, and if he performs up to his potential he could move up draft boards accordingly.

Call to the Hall (July 24, 2018)

Gifted athlete at 6-foot-3 200 pounds running a 6.91 60 yard dash. At the plate Vetrano repeats a short point A to point B stroke with a an aggressive pull side approach. Mix of line drives and ground balls but can show above average power as well. Exit velocity was 97 MPH; smoked a single in the scrimmage game as well; ball jumps off the bat. around the bag he moves well with soft hands; short, low 3/4 snap release to start the double play and was 81 MPH across the diamond. On the mound Vetrano consistently works in the 87-88 MPH range and can reach back for some 89-90 MPH heaters when needed (as evidenced in his postseason run). Works his FB to both sides of the plate and mixes a sweeping 73-75 MPH CB; not just a thrower but someone who can navigate deep into games. Legitimate dual potential for the Boston College commit.
