Big body, somewhat imposing on mound. Long arms. Good delivery - has improved balance. Moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot - good extension. Aggressive with fastball, shows good run life (86-89 mph) with slurvy type hard breaker (77-80). Has decent arm action on change, need to enhance movement (79-80). Around plate with control. Definite major D-1 to possible HS draft prospect. Has body all scouts look for. Is already on a lot of D-1 radars.
The 6-foot-5, 210 pound prospect emerged as one of the top pitchers at the event. The tall right-hander uses a high ¾ arm angle and shows loose and free arm action as he generates a consistent 83-86 mph fastball with downward sink. McDonald’s curveball registers at 71-72 mph and shows sharp 11/5 movement. His changeup, which is thrown near the same arm speed as his fastball, sat at 77-78 mph and showed signs of fading. With his large frame, McDonald should continue to develop and throw a consistent mid to high 80’s fastball by next summer.
6-foot-6, 230-pound right-handed pitcher. Committed to Virginia Tech after his performance at the Top Prospect Games. Big imposing mound presence. Has high front side knee kick. Gets good arm extension on both front and backside with differing 3/4 to low 3/4 arm slot. Gets good lower base with hip pop in follow through. Fastball explodes in zone, ranging 86-89 mph with late life and occasional cut action. Has excellent arm action on 79-80 mph changeup with some run action. Has slider that shows late bite on good ones (77-80 mph). One of top power arms in Ohio for the Class of 2013.
