2/10/19

Body Type: 6-foot-2, 195-pound physical frame.
Swing Mechanics: Open stance with a small leg kick during back load with hands.

Hit: Level swing with some slight downhill tendencies. Offers a balanced combination of strength and speed through the zone, both tools well above average. Gap abilities up the middle of the field with some present loft power to pull side. Really got into a few ball with authority down the right field line. Hits every time we see him.

Power: 89 mph exit velocity.

Offensive Projection: Run Producer.

Run: 7.66 60-yard dash.
Field: Registered pop times of 1.95-2.03.

Throw: 76 mph arm strength to second base. Arm is top tool back there. Ball jumps out of hand with carry/accuracy.

Defensive Projection: C.

2/11/18

The offensive MVP for Team Ohio at the Future Games this past summer, once again impressed at the plate. The future Butler Bulldog has been more of an intent-driven hitter in the past but showed a more mature approach at this event. He worked the middle of the field well, driving multiple balls with authority to each gap. When the opportunity presented itself, he still showed the rare ability to let is loose without sacrificing backpin. His exit velocity may not be the highest but his ability to create true backspin to pull side makes him as much of a candidate as any for pull side power. Skill set as a defender is above average across the board with arm standing out as top tool.

60-yard dash: 7.78

Pop Times: 1.94-2.01

Catcher Velocity: 77

Exit Velocity: 90

8/5/17
Capped off a strong week with a perfect day at the plate. Gray doubled in his first two at bats before adding a single in his final at bat. The lefty looked unbothered by velocity the entire week, showing easy gap pop.

8/3/17
Gray continues to impress this week. Building off a good showing in his workout, Gray went 1-1 today with a HBP. Looked unbothered by velocity and swung with intent when he pulled the trigger. Behind the plate he did a nice job blocking and threw out a would be base stealer with a 1.99 pop time.

8/2/17
Gray had an impressive all-around day. Loading sequence was fluid, creating energy and consistent timing. Launches from a balanced position with some natural loft. Barrel acceleration at swing decision was impressive. Consistently drove line drives with authority. Behind the plate he showed an above average skill set across the board. Top defensive tool looks to be his arm. Ball jumps out of his hand and throws were mostly on target. Popped times between 1.95-2.02.

6/6/17
A left-handed hitter that starts in an athletic, open setup. Advanced natural tool for his age. Loading sequence is fluid and efficient. Strong kid with bat speed. Showed the ability to drive the ball with authority to both sides of the field, with power potential to pull side. Behind the plate he is mechanically sound with some athleticism. Arm works well and throws were on the bag.
60-yard dash: 7.66
Catcher Velocity: 80
Pop Times: 2.00-2.11
Exit Velocity: 90

2/19/17
6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect. Behind the dish, he starts in a balanced stance. Weight slightly shifted onto his toes. Transfer is quick and clean. Gets rid of the ball with a sense of urgency. Short arm action through a high ¾ slot. Above average arm strength at his age for a catcher with top velocity of 79 mph. Was very impressive in batting practice as well. Loading sequence is fluid, incorporating a leg kick while taking his hands to launch. Bat speed and strength are both well above average tools for his age. Swings the bat with intent. Has the look of a guy who can consistently drive the gaps and enough juice to get it out of the park.

60 Yard Dash: 7.51
Pop Time: 1.87-1.90
Position Velocity: 79
Exit Velocity: 85

7/26/16
6-foot-1, 185-pound strong frame. A very talented catching prospect. Behind the plate he has feel for the position and is very sound mechanically. Blocking and receiving skills well are above average tools. Pop times ranged from 1.91-2.0, and he threw with 77 mph arm strength. Was impressive in both the showcase portion and game play behind the plate and equally as impressive at the plate. Left-handed power hitting catchers are hard to come by and he showed signs of being that down the road. Has an aggressive approach but is able to remain under control. Movements are fluid and batspeed is impressive. Recorded multiple extra base hits in game play and reached a top exit velocity of 87 mph.

1/18/16
5-foot-11, 170-pound strong, athletic build. A left-handed hitter that starts slightly open and gets back to square through a leg kick load and aggressive stride. Hands start in a strong position and have no load which allows him to stay short, compact to the ball. Exit velocity was 79 mph with more left in there. Behind the plate he displayed efficient footwork and a quick exchange to register pop times between 2.06 and 2.09. With his short, clean arm action he was able to reach a top velocity of 73 mph to second base. On the mound he goes with a slow temp and stays tall as he gets to his balance point. Showed good direction to home plate with an upright finish. From a 3/4 slot he sat 64-67 mph which was complimented by his 64-65 mph curveball that had gradual break at a 10/4 tilt. Also mixed in a 60-62 mph changeup.
