Mason Eckelman: C/2B, (2023) Walsh Jesuit, OH. Michigan Commit, 6-foot-1, 205-pound. In the box, Eckelman had a max exit velocity of 98 mph. Starts in an athletic tall stance with a smooth load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed is explosive, shows an upward swing plane and a back foot finish. While catching, his strong arm produced efficient throws to second at velocities up to 79 mph; showed athletic feet, a fluid exchange, and next level hands. Displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.94-1.99 pop time. Clean setup with tons of flexibility. Showed a quick arm action with a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.37.

7/21/20

Hit: One of the top bats the state has to offer. Very athletic/smooth movement patterns that create both energy and balance. When he pulls trigger he gets on plane early/creates a margin for error. All field abilities. Dynamic hit tool.
Power: Easy jump. Potential for regular power.
Offensive Projection: Run producer.
Max BP Exit Velocity: 95mph
Max BP Distance: 297ft.
Field: Skill set/personality you want in the position. Alpha type who can really receive.
Throw: Well above average arm.
Defensive Projection: C.

2/09/20

2/9/20 Position Player
Hit: At the plate Eckelman starts in a narrow, upright stance and uses a toe tap load. He drives his barrel through the zone well and remains balanced throughout the swing.
Power: 89 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: Shows potential to develop into a power threat as he matures and adds more strength.
Field: Behind the plate he shows good polish for his class with quick feet and a good arm. In the infield he shows quick actions with fairly good rhythm and timing.
Throw: 83 mph across the diamond and 80 mph from behind the plate.
Defensive Projection: C

6/12/19

Body Type: 5-foot-10, 170-pound well put together kid.
Swing Mechanics: A left-handed hitter that starts in a balanced setup. Slight double tap with lower half as hands show a back load to launch.
Hit: Aggressive swinger that finds plane early. Ball has impressive jump off the barrel due to his advanced strength/bat speed combination. One of the more accurate barrels we saw on the day. 92 mph off the bat. One of my favorite hit tools on the day.
Power: Easy gap with power potential.
Offensive Projection: Run Producer.
Field: At third base he plays with well timed feet and above average ball skills. Not flashy but sure-handed defender. Behind the dish he showed better in game than in workout. Has feel back there with above average blocking/receiving abilities.
Throw: Accurate thrower who will see more strength as physical maturation takes its course.
Defensive Projection: C/INF.
Additional Comments: Bat is top tool and it’s a really, really good one. Raked all day.

8/01/18

Really liked what I saw from LHH/INF Mason Eckelman. Physical bat with feel. Sees it well, rarely leaving the zone. When he pulls the trigger he shows a nice, smooth swing with lift. Easy lift of the baseball without sacrificing natural tools. Flew out to the wall and doubled off the wall in game. Limited viewing of him defensively but showed well in workout yesterday showing smooth feet and above average ball skills.

7/10/18

A lefty swinger that starts in an athletic setup. Shows a slight back load with hands during leg kick for timing. Path is slightly downhill with developing speed/strength through the zone. Much more pop to come as physical maturation takes its course. Contact type bat presently. An infielder with fluid actions and smooth feet. Does a nice job of playing low through the baseball, displaying above average ball skills. Arm was accurate with more strength than most for class.

60-yard dash: 8.28
Infield Velocity: 74
Exit Velocity: 82
