Hays has obviously been working on his craft over the offseason. Delivery looked efficient/explosive as he utilized much more of his lower half than we had seen in past. The changes he’s made to delivery have obviously paid off. Fastball jumped from the mid 80s in the summer to sitting consistently 87-89 mph on this day. The added velocity has also translated to secondary offerings. Breaking ball looked sharper with new found depth at 70-74 mph. Changeup was 81-82 mph with heavy cut to it. Both offerings were impressive with breaking ball looking to be the put away pitch.
6/7/16 6-foot-4, 175-pound very projectable frame. A talented pitching prospect in the 2018 class. Has some rawness to his mechanics but stuff is there. Working through a high ¾ slot he sat 82-85 mph with his fastball, showing above average armspeed. Breaking ball was sharp when down in the zone with an 11/5 shape at 68-69 mph. Also mixed in a changeup near fastball armspeed at 72-73 mph.
2/15/16 6-foot-4, 175-pound very talented prospect. On the mound he shows very good projectability. Throws with good rhythm and tempo in his delivery. Throws with very high effort at times. Generates some tilt heading down the mound. Good direction towards the plate, has a tendency to fall towards the first base side. Throws with a short back arm action into a high ¾ slot with very quick arm speed. Fastball sat 83-85 mph with good life. Curveball shows sharp 11/5 break at 70-72 mph. Changeup sat 77-78 mph. At the plate he uses and aggressive approach from the right side. Starting slightly open he uses a leg kick to gather and transfer his weight while keeping his hands simple. He takes a flat path to the ball and showed power potential to his pull side. Has much more strength/batspeed than his 81 mph exit velocity would indicate. In the field he looked very athletic at first base. He moved well laterally and showed the ability to field the ball out in front of his body. From a high-¾ slot he threw across the diamond with 81 mph arm strength. Ran a 4.58 from home to first. 1/24/16 6-foot-4, 175-pound 2-way prospect with big time upside. He has tools that make him attractive as a position player but his ceiling right now is highest on the mound. The right-hander showed quickness in his arm from a high-3/4 slot with his fastball sitting 81-83 mph that was complimented by an array of off speed pitches. His curveball was the best one we saw all day, sitting 67-69 mph and dropping off the table at an 11/5 tilt. Slider was equally as sharp with more of a 10/4 shape to it. Used a splitter/changeup combo both with late sink and good depth to it. At the plate the right-handed hitter doesn't get cheated. With a small leg kick he creates excellent, forward energy and takes huge hacks. Was able to consistently find the barrel and showed power potential to his pull side. Ran a 4.5 from home to first and exit velocity was 78 mph. At first base he moved very well laterally and showed confidence in his glove. Threw across the diamond with 60 mph arm strength.
