5/3/17 6-foot-7, 240-pound St. John's recruit sat 87-89 early touching 90 mph once. Displays a head snap and above average effort to reach top velocity. At his best in the 85-87 range working down in the zone. Curveball displayed tight, 11/5 rotation at its best, but was often up in the zone for a ball. Also displayed a changeup at 80-81 and a cutter at 82-83 that are solid enough pitches to take a hitter off the fastball.
5/24/16 6-foot-5, 230-pound right-hander struggled with command early but settled in to keep his team in game for five innings. Velocity was down a bit (83-85, topping at 87 mph). Breaking ball at 74-75 and occasional 78 mph changeup with decent sell were also utilized. High knee delivery and long arm action adds to deception.
5/11/16 XL frame with strong build looks every bit the 6-foot-5, 230-pounds at which we have him listed. Good rhythm in a delivery he was able to repeat with hip load over rubber and loose wrist snap on release. Big velo jump from when we saw him last fall, as he held 86-88 for multiple frames at the beginning of his six-inning outing and still worked 83-86 at the end. Chance for heavy ball with late tail and sink. Showed ability to maintain velo pretty well in the stretch with a slide step that was 1.29 to the plate. Didn't need to feature it much, but also incorporated a slider at 76-77 with some late, mostly 1-plane break. 6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 10 K (mostly on the FB).
9/26/15 - XL frame (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) that one can dream on a bit. Delivery featured a sideways rocker step into a slight hip coil over the rubber and good direction toward home plate. Arm action has a wrist wrap into a high three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 80-82, touching 83, while he also utilized a curveball at 72-73.
