6/15/20

Physical: Fresh off of collarbone surgery last summer, Zakarewicz exploded onto the scene with a long and lean 6-foot, 145-pound frame with projectability and athleticism throughout the movements. 7.10 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH. Balanced, open stance with the hands starting idle on the shoulder during setup. Utilized a barrel tilt with wiggle at the top coupled with a controlled toe-tap stride in order to initiate his swing. Generated hard pull-side contact with a consistent out-in-front contact point using a slightly uphill barrel path to create natural lift to the LCF gap during batting practice. The lower half was athletic and adjustable and could get low depending on the depth of the pitch. Hit into a stiff front side yielding a 93 mph bat-exit velocity per Trackman Baseball.

Defensively: The primary middle infielder showcased advanced footwork with a low center of gravity in the approach with plenty of downhill momentum through the fielding window. A soft glove hand and understanding of pace in game allowed him to make not one, but TWO diving plays at the PA State Games while getting up and firing across the diamond for the out both times. Impressive defender with a chance to become more physical. Arm worked accurately through a fluid, high ¾ slot and should point to him sticking on the left side moving forward. SS - 83 mph

Pitching: Pace in the delivery with a pause at the top of a high leg-lift. Gets quality lower half drive straight towards the plate allowing for repeatability out of a ¾ slot with arm-side run on a 79-82 mph FB in the zone. Mixed in a sharp 66-68 mph CB showing two-plane 11/5 shape and a max of 2256 spin per Trackman Baseball. Countered with a 68-70 mph CH and a differently shaped 70-71 mph SL on a horizontal plane for another deceptive look.

2/08/20

6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing from a high elbow load. A big move to his front foot leads to some timing issues. Registered a bat exit velocity of 88 mph and ran a 7.09 60-yard dash. Displayed athletic defensive actions with an ability to play through the baseball and solid carry on throws of 80 mph across the diamond. The righty sat 79-80 on the mound from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm throwing motion. Curveball sat 60-62 with 11/5 rotation and changeup was thrown with near fastball arm speed at 62-66.
