Notes

Comments

8/03/21

Physical: Strong, thick 5-foot-10, 207lb frame with power available. 7.57 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH - Slightly closed, rhythmic stance favoring the front-side early. Utilized an up/down leg lift with a hand pump at the top of the load, initiating the swing through a flat, violent path with plenty of separation. Produced a multitude of high-intent swings during his round, sequencing properly into a strong, stiff front-side at impact. Recorded a T104 mph bat-exit velocity and 95 mph average (via Trackman) good enough for a 315 foot batted ball distance at his peak. Kept it mostly on a line on this date, up to a 46% LD rate pairing an 82% hard hit rate in a middle of the order type role. Some of the better bat-speed and power potential in the class.

Defensively: The primary backstop featured comfort receiving from a compact right-knee down technique. Pop times ranged from 1.94-1.98 with pre-catch rhythm found, riding momentum of the ball into the transfer with straight line footwork (low posture) through release at a H ¾ slot. Strong, carrying throws up to 79 mph (accurate to arm-side).

2/06/21

Physical: Standout strength in a muscular, powerful 5-foot-10, 207-pound frame. 7.96 runner in the 60-yard dash.

Offensively: RHH - Put on a show at the All-State South/Central event with one of the more prominent BP rounds we’ve seen out of a Freshman. Started from a balanced, even stance with the weight over the plate in the setup as the hands were idle at first while later waving methodically at the shoulder in the timing mechanism. Utilized a full-body gather load with a leg hang stride in order to initiate the barrel through a violent, thunderous, and slightly-uphill path creating wicked bat speed (80.3 mph) through the hitting window. Didn’t sacrifice bat to ball skills for power even though he swung out of his shoes, evidenced by a 90% hard hit rate (batted balls over 90 mph) coupled with a 101 mph peak bat-exit velocity / 96 mph average. A standout bat to know in the class, Ryan uses some of the better lower half drive and will have room for even more juice down the line as he matures. Has the ability to be a true impact player at the collegiate level offensively.

Defensively: Primary third baseman was almost just as impressive defensively. He played low to the ground with immense confidence, continuously letting the glove hand work out in front effortlessly while whipping the ball across the diamond from a borderline standstill at 86 mph. Handled the play on the run flawlessly with an advanced feel for his athleticism in all phases, transfers played, and the arm could work long to ride the ball across the diamond, or could enter the V slot and be quicker if need be.
