1/28/18 - 5-foot-11, 160-pound switch-hitter displayed a much improved stroke from the left side during an impressive round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Starts from a slightly open stance from both sides and utilizes a simple knee-to-knee stride to initiate his hands. Added strength gives him to create more lift and power potential from the left side while the right-hand swing remains directional and line-drive oriented. Also showcased improved foot speed while running a 6.67 60-yard dash and fluid defensive actions with 81 mph arm strength across the diamond from multiple arm angles.
2/12/17 - Quality defensive skill set; exhibits good feet and moves well through the catch. Made diving play up middle and flipped to 1B from knees. Clean, compact arm action generated 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. 5-foot-11, 155-pound switch-hitter who ran a 6.91 60-yard dash. Short, rhythmic load from the right side, where his hands work better, as he has a bit of an armbar with some stiffness in his wrists from the left side. Eyes stay level, minimal moving parts to get out of sync, and has some feel for hitting against his front leg from both sides. Logged an 84 mph exit velocity and gap power will continue to emerge as he adds strength to his frame.
12/12/15 - 5-foot-11, 140-pound freshman displayed improved measurables across the board since we last saw him 11 months ago. The switch-hitter displayed above average abilities from both sides of the plate with a top bat exit velocity of 83 mph from the right side. He flashed a shorter, more compact stroke from the right side but in spite of some length to his left hand swing Barto does show some gap-power potential. The primary infielder showcased an 80 mph arm from the outfield and athletic actions at shortstop with the ability to play through the baseball. The 7.08 runner flashed a soft glove hand and solid feet while making throws from multiple arm angles.
1/10/15 - Barto is a 5-foot-9, 140-pound 8th grader that showcased a well-rounded skill set. He showed good feet (7.20 60-yard dash), and developing arm strength from the outfield (76 mph) and middle infield (71 mph). Barto impressed at the plate flashing switch-hitting abilities with similar swings from both sides of the plate. From the right side Barto displayed an open stance with a flat barrel path. He stays inside the baseball well and showed the ability to consistently square the baseball. His swing is a bit longer from the non-dominant left side but Barto showed good rhythm and the ability to barrel the baseball routinely. The righty sat 71-72 from the mound with a long, loose arm action. His 64 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed while his 60 mph curveball is still a pitch in development.
