A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.
Physical: Compact, athletic 5-foot-9, 180lb frame. 6.90 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Even, balanced stance, as the hands operated high to begin. Utilized a toe-tap stride to initiate a flat path into the hitting zone. Quick first move and some rotational burst available in the swing. Recorded a T91 mph bat-exit velocity with a consistent fly ball approach (lofty 58% FB rate) and creates backspin to the pull-side gap. Bat-speed continues to increase over the past year.
Defensively: The middle infielder demonstrated a hop in the prep step and rounded the ball towards the target with momentum. Kept the feet moving at release from a H ¾ slot (78 mph). Will most likely assume a role at 2B or 3B at next level; made plays on the run.
Pitching: RHP - Started in the middle of the rubber, swings the leg into stack position. A loose arm worked into slot driving the ball at 77-79 mph with some ASR. Mixed a short two-plane 70-72 mph CB to the glove side of the plate and swept a mid-70’s SL that showed cutter shape at times.
7/13/21
Physical: Strong, athletic 5-foot-9, 180lb frame with above-average feel. 6.87 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Bent, balanced stance as the hands operated calmly at the shoulder. Utilized a short toe tap stride, initiating a lightning quick, flat path into the hitting zone. Turned the barrel efficiently over the rear hip, hitting behind the ball and produced a strong round of batting practice with lots of pull-side line drives. Notched a T88 mph bat-exit velocity at his peak with doubles power available (322 foot batted ball distance) and carried mature swings over into game action. Future top of the order type bat (two hole hitter) who can handle the bat situationally.
Defensively: The primary shortstop worked hard to beat the ball to the spot, chopping the feet with downward momentum in the chest. Fielded inside/outside the left foot with no issues, transferring in rhythm to the chest and released from a H ¾ slot (81 mph arm, accurate, left side projection). Made plays on the run with ability to throw across his body; natural pace.
Pitching: RHP - The righty commanded the zone using a balanced, repeatable operation with consistent tempo down the slope. Landed in sequence at even, firing from a H ¾ slot with some arm-speed out in front. The FB ranged from 78-80 mph for strikes to both sides of the plate, mixing a well-spun 68-69 mph CB with some depth to it (11/5 tilt, T2348rpms at his peak).
7/15/20
Physical: Solid and thickly built 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame with strength throughout. 7.13 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH. Begins with a crouched, balanced stance as the hands start above the shoulder in the setup. Utilized a short lift and replace stride to initiate an efficient, flat barrel path into the hitting zone. Showed the ability to keep the hands inside the baseball at will getting to all pitches short and on time with feel for the barrel. Very little extra going on in the swing creating high level bat to ball skills, the lower half rotated with solid direction as well as intent driving the backside through wherever the ball was pitched. Demonstrated some lift after contact and especially liked to drive the pitch up above the belt towards the LCF gap, recorded a top bat-exit velocity of 91 mph per Trackman Baseball during batting practice.
Defensively: The primary third baseman featured a medium setup with a moderately low center of gravity on the approach, fielded off of the middle/left side of his body with a semi-soft glove hand, quick replacement of the feet after fielding for pace across the diamond, low ¾ arm-slot with a moderate arm circle. INF - 71 mph
2/08/20
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing from a lift-and-replace stride. An arm bar in the load and a steep approach angle lead to some barrel awareness issues. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 6.82 60-yard dash. Displayed capable defensive actions at third base with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 77-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a balanced repeatable delivery. Four seam and two seam fastballs had similar actions at the plate. Curveball showed late, short 11/5 break at 66-67 and changeup was thrown at near fastball arm speed while sitting 69-71.
