After an initial two-inning look at Yesavage last summer at the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team trials, I pegged him as a late Day One draft talent who could pitch himself into the first round. After watching him deal on Friday against Purdue when he struck out 11 and allowed two hits and two walks in eight innings – he is now that. For me he slots into the back half of the first round after collegians Chase Burns and Hagen Smith, and just above Brody Brecht and Jonathan Santucci. Working with mostly a two-pitch arsenal of a 93-96 mph (T97) mph fastball and a plus slider, 84-86, out of the same window, he repeats both pitches time and time again. He will also flash a very usable split in the low-80s. On this look against the Boilers, Yesavage jumped ahead and stayed ahead, seldom wasting a pitch. It took him just 103 pitches to go eight innings, and 75 of those pitches were strikes. After three weeks, Yesavage has pitched 18 innings and struck out 30 batters, and opponents are batting just .115 against him.

USA CNT:Possessing a power pitcher’s build at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Yesavage reminds me both physically and also of the first time I saw Gabriel Hughes (Gonzaga 1st rounder in 2022) with the 2021 USA CNT. Like Hughes, Yesavage wasn’t the sharpest on my first-ever look, but he has all the ingredients to become a first rounder in 2024. The righthander is tall, strong and just overpowers the baseball from a high slot to produce 91-94 mph heaters (up to 97 this spring #HeatSheet) and a plus-to-better slider/cutter. The 86-88 mph breaker is a swing/miss offering that when combined with his fastball that holds its plane down in the zone, as well as rides at the letters, enabled him to strikeout 105 batters in 74 innings this past spring for the Pirates. To complete his arsenal, Yesavage also mixes in a nasty mid-80s split changeup for additional swing/miss against left handed hitters. Maybe not regarded as a slam dunk first round pick at this point, he will be no different than other Day One arm talents who rise simply based upon staying healthy.

Physical: Tall, physical build at 6-foot-4, 240LBS. East Carolina Commit.
Pitching: High ceiling for the RHP. Simple, connected movements down the mound. Begins on the 1B side of the rubber. Utilizes a rocker step that leads to a leg lift to chest height. Hands begin at chest height, lower to belt line, then rise again in correlation with the leg lift. On glove break arm works down and back while maintaining slight bend in the elbow. Works to a high 3/4 release point and is consistent. The tall frame and high release point make for an uncomfortable at bat. High spin and high IVB. FB sat 93-94MPH, toping at 95MPH. Power arm.

Pittsburgh commit. 6-foot-4, 240-pound right-handed pitcher sat 89-90 with heavy downward plane one week after showing well at the 2020 Comitted Player ProCase. Curveball at 68-72 has a chance to be a solid pitch with better arm speed. Changeup was thrown with good sell and command down in the zone at 76-79. Slider at 78-80 is an above average pitch at 78-80 with tight, late break. Physical righty will be an innings eater at the next level.

Pittsburgh commit. 6-foot-4, 240-pound right-handed pitcher sat 88-89 from a high 3/4 arm slot with more in the tank. Fastball showed arm-side run while changeup at 78-79 showed similar fade with good sell. Showed a feel for spin on a curveall at 74-76 with 11/5 rotation and a slider at 77-80 that has short down action at the plate. Physical presence on the mound. Has the ability to see additional velocity with a better incorporation of the lower half.

6-foot-3, 220-pound two-way prospect put together arguably the top performance of the day. The primary pitcher sat 87-88 from a high 3/4 arm slot utilizing his projectable frame well in getting downhill. His curveball at 71-75 showcased 11/5 rotation and regular two-plane break. A changeup at 77-80 is thrown with good arm speed and sink for a quality third offering. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to begin. He stays behind the baseball well and creates backspin with routine loud contact. Registered a bat exit velocity of 93 mph and ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. Completed his impressive day by showcasing 89 mph arm strength from the outfield.

6-foot-3, 210-pound primary pitcher sat 84-86 while touching 87 mph out of an over-the-top arm slot. Physical frame with room to add strength. Gets over front leg well and has the potential for heavy sink to the fastball. Curveball at 66-69 showed two-plane depth out of the stretch. Maintains solid arm speed on changeup at 73-74. Two-way prospect ran a 7.37 60-yard dash and flashed 83 mph arm strength from the outfield. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a feel for the barrel with strength in his lower half while registering a bat exit velocity of 89 mph.
