Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

The 2nd of two Pennsylvania PBR Limited Series tournaments for the summer of 2019 kicks off this Friday (July 19th) with eight teams participating in a round robin format over the course of three days at the Quinn Athletic Complex on the campus of the University of Scranton.

Four 16U teams get tournament action started, with each playing two games on Friday. The 16U teams will wrap up play Saturday morning with 17U teams playing a single game Saturday afternoon and a pair of games each on Sunday.

Today we preview the rosters and a handful of the talented prospects from each team scheduled to participate at the 17U level. A live scout blog will run each day of the tournament with scouting notes and scoring updates for all 12 games in the tournament.

Keystone State Bombers 17u

The Bombers organization recently had their second MLB draft pick in as many years when Nate Fassnacht (George Washington University / Ephrata HS) was selected by the Phillies in the 8th round. Zach Guth (Harford CC / Franklin Area HS) went to the Braves in the 26th round in 2018.

The Bombers 17U roster sports a trio of committed prospect in RHP Zach Garlinger and SS/2B Taso Kovack both to Millersville University as well as RHP Aaron Snyder to Canisius.

A trio of 2021 prospects in RHP Trey Yesavage, LHP Colton Book and LHP Josh Beck will all represent Team PA at the PBR Future Games in two weeks. Yesavage has been up to 90 mph off the mound this summer.

OF Domenic Popa and 3B Peter Capobianco, along with Garlinger also participated in the Future Games for Team PA in 2018.

OF Brady Gibble and 1B Michael May have also drawn heavy interest from college scouts this summer.

Full Roster

Gutsie sports academyThe Gatorz showcased well at a PBR hosted Scout Day this winter and will have a roster with a number of quality uncomitted prospects.

A trio of Gatorz have already announced college commitments. 2018 Team Pennsylvania Junior Future Games participant, 2022 LHP/OF James Lordi (Penn State), Gatorz Scout Day standout 2020 RHP Will Conroy (Millersville) and 2019 C/3B Mike Little (Bucknell) have all made college choices.

Look for SS/3B Gavin McGowan (No. 78 in the PA Class of 2020) and OF Zachary Chowansky (No. 130) to likely be the next two Gatorz to announce a college decision.

One of the top programs in Northeast Pennsylvania will bring a roster loaded with talented prospects from both Pennsylvania and New York.

SS/RHP Evan Hunter (Middlebiury College) is the lone committed prospect on a talented roster, but that likely won't last much longer.

2020 RHP/1B Orin Winslow from Ramsey HS in New Jersey will likely be next to announce. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound righty has been up to 89 mph off the bump this summer.

2020 RHP/SS Nathaniel Kilburn sits in the mid-80s and 2021 1B/RHP Eric Hodnett is currently ranked No. 76 in the New York Class of 2021. Both will likely draw attention during the course of this event.

Quickly becoming one of the most respected travel programs in the state, the Bucks County Generals continue to help develop college caliber prospects on a yearly basis.

The 2021 roster is filled with college bound players and will be fun to watch. RHP/1B Nick Bitsko (Central Bucks East), a 6-foot-4, 220-pound two-way prospect, highlights the roster. The Virginia commit will run his fastball up to 94 mph and adds thump in the middle of the order as a right-handed hitter. Bitsko is currently ranked No. 1 in the PA Class of 2021 and No. 6 in the PBR combined Class of 2021 rankings nationwide.

2020 SS Sam Ruta (No. 21) and 2021 SS/RHP Zach Smith (No. 47) are both Army commits. Ruta participated as a member of the Team PA roster at the 2018 PBR Future Games. OF/1B Dalton Turner (No. 90) is a Rider commit.

The extremely deep Generals roster also includes an additional dozen players currently ranked in the PA Class of 2020:

C Justin Igoe (No. 57), RHP Gene McGough (No. 59), RHP Michael Rabayda (No. 62), C Luke Gregory (No. 66), SS Tyler Young (No. 102), 1B Colby Chan (No. 105), LHP Devin Sweeney (No. 107) RHP Deven Smith (No. 109), SS/2B Emilio Pallante (No. 110), RHP Dan Miller (No. 152), 3B/2B Joseph Kumar (No. 182), RHP Tyler Babel (No. 198).
