06.26.18
6-foot, 190-pound frame with plenty of strength throughout. The left-handed hitting catcher pounded a 94 mph exit velo off the tee, and made loud contact in the BP round. He starts in a slightly open stance, high hands, has a simple load back into his back side, has a short stride where he pulls his right knee back to generate a powerful weight shift, is in the zone a long time with his barrel, and is very strong at the point of contact. He ran a 7.25 laser-timed 60. His pop times ranged from 2.07-2.19, he made low throws around the bag (75 mph arm strength), and has a clean exchange. In the infield he has quick and fluid footwork, especially for a primary catcher, with a quick and clean transfer and arm accuracy across the diamond (76 mph).

At 6-foot, 190-pounds, Abello has the look of a strong corner bat at the next level, with the ability to play two premium positions. The left-handed hitter starts from a neutral stance before he loads back. Short lift of his front leg to stride forward as he separates and walks away from his hands. Balanced swing, loose hands, barrel gets on plane and stay in the zone with good extension through contact. Ball jumps off the barrel in the middle of the field with a top exit velocity of 91 mph off the tee. On the infield, Abello does a nice job of funneling the ball to the midline of his body as he shuffles his feet to create linear momentum. Accurate arm across the diamond at 77 mph.
Abello is a projectable left-handed hitter with broad shoulders and a strong lower half at 6-feet, 180-pounds. He has a balanced swing with a smooth leg kick, long stride, lands athletically as his hands slot back. Hard contact, gap power with an exit velocity of 91 mph off the tee. Clean path through the zone, loose finish. Behind the plate, Abello posted pop times of 2.18-2.3 with a 72 mph velocity from the crouch with average effort, footwork and long exchange. and staggered footwork. On the infield, he has average footwork and hands, and throws from a high-¾ slot at 76 mph across the diamond.
