8/15/22

Cape Cod: A scouting favorite from his one inning or work during the All-Star Game, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Wells showed an athletic, repeatable delivery to go along with a riding fastball that sat 92-94 and touched 95. Spin rates ranged from 2300-2500 rpm. He also mixed in a 12/6 power curve at 81-82 (2550 rpm), an 87 mph cutter (2400) and an 85 mph changeup (1920). With four pitches for strikes and a starter-type delivery, he easily showed top five round potential for next year's draft.

7/25/21

Cape Cod- Showed a quick arm from a high three-quarter release point at 89-91 mph with 2300-2400 rpm spin rates. He repeated and pitched off of an above average 78-81 breaking ball with spin rates into the 2700s.

11/04/18

Wells threw 94 across the infield, then hit 92 in warmups, pitching at 88-90, hitting 90 multiple times. The right-hander works from a high slot with an athletic delivery and clean arm swing. His changeup was 80, and he spun a 72-73 mph breaking ball.

10/21/17

Wells has a confident demeanor and is a projectable two-way player with a strong, athletic frame at 6-foot, 185-pound frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a short, quick arm stroke and athletic delivery with good hip turn as he gets down the mound with a drop-and-drive, up-tempo delivery. His fastball sat 84-86 mph, dropping only a couple of times to 83 mph. His curveball comes in at 67-70 mph with 11/5 shape and depth. He throws his changeup with fastball arm speed and arm side fade at 76 mph. A two-way player and right-handed hitter, Wells swings the bat with conviction, a fluid hack and loose finish, keeping the barrel in the zone a long time. He has fast-twitch hands as he whips the barrel through the zone with an exit velocity of 87 mph. The ball jumps off his bat and he has current gap power with carry. On the infield, Wells has quick footwork with a clean exchange and easy carry across the diamond at 84 mph. He shows soft hands and good glove action as he plays low - and out front, funneling the ball to the midline of his body. During the game he made hard contact when he singled to left-centerfield and stole second base several pitches later.
