Selvig is a 6-foot, 190-pound righty with thick strength. Sat exclusively 91-92 mph on Sunday, and while that velocity has ticked up some headed into the spring, Selvig showed the same aptitude to spin two aggressive breaking balls – a slider and curveball – to go along with a power change. Selvig’s slider, 81-84 mph, spins on average 2,333 rpm with short action. The curveball is similarly firm at 75-79 mph, though it features greater depth and action with hard horizontal movement at an average of -16.2 inches. The changeup flashes as his best offspeed most often, though the breaking balls will earn chases out of the zone as well. Selvig’s change is 82-85 mph hard arm-side sink/fade that he showed confidence in, especially, and he tunneled it well off his traditional fastball arm slot and speed. He’s a top-400-ranked prospect in the country and remains one of Wisconsin’s top pitchers.
4/14/21
Selvig has been trending up since the fall and is stirring some national attention. His up-tempo, drop-and-drive delivery matches the intensity at which he pounds the zone. He showed the ability to command his fastball at 88-90, touching 91, at a preseason event in March. There, the breaking ball flashed sharp action while working on an 11/5 plane and was almost slurve-like at times, but he was able to control it consistently. He has advanced feel for his changeup and flashed excellent arm-side action at times with a convicted arm stroke.

Selvig will be one of the top right-handers in the state’s 2023 class when they’re released, as he’s already displaying some serious arm strength that pairs really effectively with his power changeup. Over the weekend, Selvig was sitting 85-87 mph with his fast, aggressive arm. He mixes in a slider-changeup combo, and both project well. The breaking ball features tight spin that flashes sharp, while the changeup is thrown with intent, featuring late fading action.

Listed at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds; a break-out prospect in 2020 after a stellar ‘pen pitched at a preseason event in Madison, followed by another strong performance at June’s Underclass Trials. Finally, we saw Selvig in-game, and he did not disappoint. Selvig has done well to feature a real three-pitch mix; a fastball at a heavy 82-84 mph, touching 85 this weekend, with a changeup that features late arm-side run/fade, 74-76, and a breaking ball with depth and tight spin, 67-69. Works with some effort out of a loose, quick high ¾ slot. The feel he has for the three pitches is advanced, and he’s firmly landed on the prospect map.
