Schultz has long intrigued us with his frame, deceptive delivery, and stuff and it’s coming together here late this summer, in what became one of our staff most impressive in-person looks at the 6-foot-2 lefty yet. Schultz still showed his high leg lift and coil, hiding the ball from hitters, but was under much more control and restraint on Friday, which helped him locate and hit his spots more effectively. He sat 80-83 mph throughout his four innings of work, but the deception and control helped his fastball play up. His sweeping breaking ball, 70-72 mph, also flashed sharp action and helped him notch seven punch-outs in the outing. Schultz allowed just two hits and one walk, which further provides the evidence to show that he had the feel all night.

One of the state’s top uncommitted arms in the 2020 class. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound southpaw worked a fastball in the low 80’s with arm side run, paired with a sharp curveball at 70-72 mph with 1/7 shape. He maintained fastball arm speed on his breaking ball. Schultz showcased a plunge draw with long and loose arm action at a high ¾ slot.

FB: T87, 83-85 mph. Played straight with occasional tilt down, in the zone.
CB: 70-72 mph. 1/7 shape, gradual action. 
CH: 82-83 mph. Firm offering with minimal movement, maintains arm speed.

8/9/18 - 6-foot-2, 180-pound left-handed pitcher, long limbed projectable frame. Deceptive delivery, works with high front side, coils at top and works across his body. Easy arm action, long and loose, slight plunge on back side, high ¾ slot. Fastball runs to arm side, feel for the zone, sat 80-81 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, 66-67 mph, ability to drop for strikes. Changeup fades to arm side, 76-78 mph.

7/8/18 - 6-foot-2, 170-pound, left-handed pitcher with a projectable frame. On the mound, long arm action from a high ¾ angle. In line direction with a closed landing. Fastball, thrown for strikes, sat 77-80 mph. Curveball, 2/8 shape, 66-67 mph. Changeup, 71-72 mph.

6/5/18 - 6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed pitcher, lanky, durable build, projectable frame. Works from a ¾ slot, long arm action, short stab, arm accelerates out front. Shoulders stay level, works towards home, lands square. Fastball, 78-80, located on outer half.
