2016 Super 60 - Illinois recruit. 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. Short, quick arm action, high-3/4 slot, hip coil at balance point, crossfire action, hides ball well. Fastball sat 88-89 mph, topped at 90, mostly straight, consistent strikes. Throws curveball with conviction, 79-80 mph, lacked usual sharpness and depth that we’ve seen in the past. Changeup ranged between 81-83 mph with arm-side sink, thrown aggressively for strikes down in the zone.
9.5.15 - Uptempo delivery, pitches with pace, controls the game well. High ¾ slot, quick arm, works across his body. Showed the ability to pound the zone with a fastball curveball combination. Fastball sat 87-88 mph early, touched an 89. Curveball played at 77-79 mph, showed depth, swing and miss type pitch, occasionally more lateral action than we’ve seen in the past. Three innings, no hits, no walks, four strikeouts.
7/27/15 - Verbally commits to University of Illinois
6/23/15 - At 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Schmitt isn’t necessarily a pro prospect, but colleges might want to move quickly on him after he recently de-committed from Western Kentucky. Schmitt threw arguably the best swing-and-miss breaking ball at the event, a tight 77-79 mph hammer with late, sharp two-plane break. Schmitt complemented his curveball with an 88-90 mph running fastball, and also mixed in an 80-82 changeup. Mechanically, Schmitt isn’t clean and easy, as he has a stab on the backside with effort in the delivery, but he has a highly competitive demeanor on the mound, a quick arm and, above all, throws strikes.

6/18/15 - Verbally decommitted from Western Kentucky.
3/15/15- 5-foot-10, 165-pound, right-handed pitcher. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle short arm circle in back and extension out front. Gets tall at balance point, slight back turn to plate, drop and drive online delivery. Works downhill with up tempo rhythm. Fastball sat 87-88 topping out at 89 mph. Hammer curveball with 12-6 shape and sharp hard action at 75-78 mph. Changeup flashed both armside run and cut at 80-82 mph. High follow committed to Western Kentucky.
2/13/15 - Verbally committed to Western Kentucky.
3/16/14 - Athletic build with length, 5-foot-10, 160-pound two-way player. Projects well on the mound, delivery is athletic, shows occasional effort, maintains athleticism from the stretch. Arm action is quick and loose, high ¾ slot. Fastball has run, 85-87 mph, showed feel for the zone, has finish through the zone. Curveball works on 11/5 plane, throws with aggressive arm action, occasional sharp action, 70-72 mph, advanced pitch. Showed changeup to be best secondary pitch, thrown with fastball similar arm action, sinking action, 72-74 mph, with well above average control of the zone. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride, lower hands. Short to the baseball, above average bat speed, 84 mph exit velocity. Defensively plays through the baseball athletically, quick arm action, high ¾ slot, gets carry, 87 mph from his crow hop. Gets down the line at 4.5. Schmitt is a high level 2016 prospect with a quick arm that projects for more velocity with added strength. Schmitt is a high follow in the region.

10/19/13 - 5-foot-9, 155-pound right handed pitcher, wiry build. Uptempo delivery, shows some effort, athletic finish. Arm action is quick, high ¾ slot, free and loose arm action. Showed excellent stuff and action through the zone on all pitches. Fastball showed late action to it, mostly four seam, showed control of the zone, 82-84 mph. Curveball has depth on a 12/6 plane, flashed sharp action, aggressive arm speed, solid feel, 70-73 mph. Changeup has fastball arm speed, plus potential pitch, advanced action, excellent arm side run, occasionally drops to a ¾ slot, showed advanced feel, 73-75 mph. High level arm showed some of the best stuff in Wisconsin’s class of 2016.
