2021 MLB Draft: A Tennessee bounce back from Iowa Western JC, the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder runs his fastball up to 98 and will sit an easy 92-94 with run and sink. He can also break out an 89-90 cutter that plays perfectly off of his fastball, busting it in on the hands of left-handed hitters. He also possesses a high-spinning (up to 2600 rpm) 78-80 mph slider. It's an above average pitch and very effective against same-side batters. He will also mix in an above-average mid-80s fading changeup, mostly using it against left-handed hitters. With good deception to his delivery, Kohlhepp struck out 65 in 61 innings of work to go along with a 7-2 record and 3.08 ERA.
9.23.17 - Tennessee commit. Long lanky projectable frame that is starting to fill out, 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, loose frame with strength. Delivery is under control and repeatable. Easy arm from ¾ slot. Fastball was 89-91 mph, touched 92 mph in the first, runs to arm side, lively finish and showed control. Slider is a plus pitch, 78-80 mph, tight hard action.
7.18.17 - Verbally committed to Tennessee.
7.11.17 - Committed to Tennessee shortly following the event. Currently ranked No. 7 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018 and No. 132 in the PBR Overall Ranks. 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitting RHP/SS with a lanky, athletic frame. On the mound works from a low ¾ arm angle with a loose, quick arm action. Tough angle for hitters. Works exclusively out of the stretch. Tall and fall delivery with a slightly closed landing. Fastball has running action working 87-89 topping out at 90 mph. Slider is his put away pitch with sweeping action and sharp breaking action at 74-77 mph. High end reliever profile. Defensively showed a loose arm action from a ¾ slot. Athletic defender with fluid footwork. Threw 84 mph across the infield. At the plate hits from a tall, slightly open setup with a short leg lift stride and good balance. Short, uphill swing path with fluid rhythm. 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.38.
7.7.17 - Currently ranked No. 6 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018. Top uncommitted player in the state. Has the ability to pitch and play shortstop at the next level. Projects better on the mound. Has one of the best fastball, breaking ball combos in the in the state along with GRB teammate Dillon Nowicki. Came in relief for GRB working two, perfect innings striking out two. Deceptive delivery working from a ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Fastball jumps on hitters sat 88-90 mph in game topping out at 91 mph in warmups. Only saw one slider in game at 76 mph with sharp breaking action. Shows swing and miss potential, throws it aggressively, worked 76-79 mph in warmups.
6.20.17 - Decommitted from Arkansas and reopened his recruiting.
6.6.17 - Arkansas commit. Currently ranked No. 6 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018 and No. 154 in the PBR Overall Ranks. 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitting short stop with a lanky, athletic frame. Stands out defensively with confident smooth actions and quick footwork. Gets good reads off the bat. Throws from a sidearm slot. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond. Shows the ability to slow the game down on the defensive side. At the plate hits from a tall, slightly open setup. Smooth load with a short, uphill swing path. Loose hands, generates easy bat speed. Also shows upside on the mound, but did not pitch on the day. Interesting two way follow heading into the summer season.
10.23.16 - Made a big splash at the Prep Baseball Report Future Games in August when the left-handed hitting shortstop took the mound for a brief one-inning stint. The appearance made him one of the biggest winners at the Future Games, and shortly after he committed to Arkansas. On Sunday, Kohlhepp took the mound for another one-inning outing for the Reds Midwest Scout Team during their 2-0 win over the Braves Scout Team. Once again, Kohlhepp tantalized with his intriguing upside. At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Kohlhepp is wiry thin with long limbs. Working from a low-3/4 slot, he produces wicked run on his 87-88 mph fastball. Move importantly, his 78-80 mph slider shows potential to be a big-time swing-and-miss pitch when he harnesses the late sweeping action on it.
9/25/16 - Verbally committed to Arkansas.
Future Games 2016 - 6-foot-2, 165-pound left-handed hitting two-way player, long lean frame, highly projectable, loose limbed. Offensively hits from a tall balanced setup, quiet approach, loose hands with short path to the baseball and good hand eye. Showed ability to drive the baseball to the gap in game, finished 3-for-7 with a double, triple and three RBI, flashing pull side pop, 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively shows ability to move to multiple infield positions, may end up projecting best at third base, hands are soft and moves well laterally, arm carries with athleticism and ability to release on the move (84 mph across the infield. 7.39 runner in the 60, gets out of the box well, several home to first times ranging 4.43-4.51. On the mound delivery starts with rocker foot forward, short rocker step to balance, gets down the hill with tempo. Arm action is loose and live, ¾ slot, high ceiling on the mound. Fastball sat at 86-87 mph with sink to arm side. Complements it with wipe out slider at 75-77 mph, sharp lateral action that gets swing and miss, struck out two in one inning with slider.
7.20.15 - 6-foot, 155-pound infielder, lean athletic build. Left-handed hitter, hits from a balanced setup, slightly open, short stride, good balance through contact. Repeats swing well, good barrel control, loose hands, consistent contact in BP. Line drive approach, slight pull side approach. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed athletic loose actions, high ¾ slot, arm played with carry at 78 mph across the diamond.
3.15.15- Lanky 5-foot-10, 145-pound frame, long limbs. Left-handed hitting infielder, loose athletic arm action, 3/4 slot, throws have considerable carry for age, 78 mph. Shows solid infield actions, which should continue to improve as he fills into his frame. Offensively, hits from left side, average bat speed, heavy shoulder involvement in swing.
