Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

We continue our countdown of the Top Profiles of 2020 with '21 SS Aidan Stewart (Next Level Academy) who comes in at No.15. A Missouri recruit, Stewart possesses all of the tools that you look for in a shortstop.

At 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, Stewart moved from Illinois to Alabama a couple years ago and quickly turned into one of the most sought after middle infielders in the '21 AL class. Sitting at No. 14 in the 2021 Alabama Player Rankings, the Missouri recruit has some electric tools, both at the plate and defensively. At the 2019 PBR Future Games with Team Alabama, he posted a 97 mph EV and broke the IF velocity record at the event at 94 mph across the diamond.

Scouting Report

9/18/19

6-foot-5, 178-pound, switch-hitting shortstop, highly projectable athlete, long, lanky frame with strength throughout, will continue to add strength and fill out. Offensively has started to really put it all together at the plate, is an advanced combination of hit and power tool. Has feel in the box and situational awareness, knows how to get the job, execute when called upon, does not try to play outside himself. Executed a perfect hit and run on Saturday morning, hitting behind the runner into right field, allowing the runner to advance to third base. Put on a show the rest of the weekend by blasting pitch after pitch, collected multiple triples as he consistently drove the ball middle/pull, capped it all off by crushing a HR from the right-side on Sunday morning (90 mph exit velocity). Can flat out play, making himself into a highly coveted prospect.

9/18/19

6-foot-5, 178 pounds; lanky frame. Stewart has improved in every aspect since we saw him in the Future Games for Team Alabama. At the plate, the switch-hitting infielder has shown improved overall feel for left-handed swing. Barrel whip has improved, as well as overall fluid movements. 3/16/19

6-foot-5, 175-pound, long, lean, projectable two-way prospect. Right-handed pitcher, came out of the bullpen. Compact, clean, arm action that works loose and quick from a high ¾ slot. Fastball comes out of the hand easy, jumps through the hitting zone, works mostly straight with occasional arm-side-run, sat 85-87 mph, touched 88.. Changeup was best secondary offering. Maintains arm speed, arm-side-run, down in the zone, swing-and-miss pitch, 78-81 mph. Curveball, went to it only a few times, slurvy 1/7 shape, depth, 67-69, inconsistent feel. Overall, control was streaky but stuff is dynamic when in the hitting zone. Struck out five in two innings of work but also walked four. High-ceiling, uncommitted 2020 right-handed pitcher. Aslo, started at third base. Smooth, easy actions, soft hands and presents the glove early and out in front of body. Clean, easy release and above-average arm across the diamond. Hit left-handed, which was our first look at it. Easy, handsy swing, stays inside the ball. Finished 1-for-3 with a ground ball through the left side.

Started at shortstop and hit seventh for the Spartans. Defensively plays through the ball with rhythm and bounce. Comfortable around the bag, agile footwork, gets to the ball quickly, fluid transfer, squares his shoulders to the target, above average arm speed. Can make the unorthodox off-balance throws across the diamond, loose, multi-angle arm slot, true ball with carry. Offensively, loose, fluid swing. Open setup, wrap load, loose hands, natural uphill stroke, gets extension. Long effortless strides out of the box, aggressive turns around first. 2020 middle infielder to follow.

4.20.18 - 6-foot-4, 164-pound, long-limbed, loose-bodied, projectable, right-handed hitting infielder. Extremely high-ceiling prospect with plenty of room for continued physical development. Started at shortstop. Athletic actions, moves and plays the game with ease on the infield. Soft hands, plays under control, maintained body control. Made multiple impressive run-through plays in game. Loose arm, throws carried across the diamond. Has all the tools to stick on the left-side of the diamond. Offensively, finished the day 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Jumped on the first pitch he saw in his first at-bat and drove it deep into the left-center field gap for an RBI double. Loose hands, creates bat speed and gap-to-gap approach. Occasionally swing will get long and try to do too much. Toolsy prospect that appears to be scratching the surface of his potential. Will benefit from playing with a higher motor moving forward. High-follow 2020 prospect.
