2023 PBR All-American Game, Spotlight: Nick Montgomery
August 23, 2023
On Saturday, Sept. 23, Prep Baseball Report is hosting its inaugural High School All-American Game at American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers. The unique event will feature the nation’s top high school seniors who are set to battle against a roster of the country’s best juniors in Class of 2024 vs. Class of 2025 action, giving pro scouts a unique look at current and future draft classes.
We’ve begun to unveil the event’s participants on our social media channels, and we’ll spotlight those players more closely on our site, too, highlighting past performances and scouting reports from the live looks we’ve gathered on this gifted group throughout the years.
We're highlighting senior backstop Nick Montgomery, a Cypress, California native who's committed to Arizona State and ranked within the top-25 nationally. Montgomery has been a premier performer time and time again this summer. He shined at the PBR ProCase West, at the PDP, at Area Codes, and now he's headed to Milwaukee to take part in the inaugural PBR All-American Game.
PBR's VP of Scouting Shooter Hunt had this to say regarding Montgomery following his performance at the PDP: "Montgomery hardly slowed down from his initial summer jumping off point at the PBR SoCal Procase, and only reasserted himself as a must-follow prospect in the class. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound showcased some of the biggest power in the class, slamming an exclamation point on batting practice the first day by polluting the left field berm with pearly white baseballs. Optically intriguing at the plate, the big right-handed hitting slugger never squares from an open setup, rather striding open while still providing plenty of plate coverage thanks to long, powerful limbs. When sped up, at times, the feet got a bit “happy” with the hips leaking, but the quick hands always played, and the semi-uphill path provided perpetually dangerous swings with an impact tool that should hold as a carrying one moving forward. The eye-opening strength and loud outputs are overshadowed when at his best Montgomery is covering the plate to the outer half with missiles to the back side gap. Impressively, he remains well connected with the long limbs in creating a compact stroke that still provides plenty of lag in the zone. Working at multiple positions, his value as an above average receiver with a strong throwing arm who will hit for big power has pushed him into the conversation for being the top backstop in the class."
