VISALIA, CALIF. - This past weekend, October 4th, the Prep Baseball California team hosted the Visalia Wolfpack Scout Day at the College of Sequioas in Visalia, Cal. This was an exclusive event for players within the Visalia Wolfpack program, featuring players from these classes (2027-2030), and gave our staff an ample look at players within the Wolfpack program.
Just under 20 players made their way to College of Sequioas and participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball California staff.
To start the day, all position players in attendance ran a 60-yard sprint with all split times being gathered using VALD Technologies' laser timing system. Upon completion of the athletic testing portion of the day, the players went into offensive evaluations with multiple rounds of batting practice, where Trackman Technologies was in use to gather batted ball data on players in attendance. Which was then followed by defensive evaluations at their primary and secondary position (OF, C, SS, 1B) with arm strength being measured via a Stalker Radar gun and skill evaluations by our staff on hand. Once the batting practice portion of the event was completed, we shifted into the pitching portion of the day with pitchers throwing bullpens from the main mound with Trackman Technologies running to gather pitch data.
Today, we will be looking at some of the top overall performers from the event, found below. For all of the event information, please click here.
TOP PERFORMERS:
|
Brandon Correa SS / RHP / Monache High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 167 / POS: 33
Correa is coming off of an arm injury, but now he’s back and 100% healthy, he definitely made a statement since the last time we got to see him down in SoCal for the Future Games tryouts. He’s primarily a shortstop, Correa makes the routine play, and plays low to the ground, he can stay on the left side of the infield if he continues to mature on the hitting side. Correa hopped on the mound for a bullpen at the end of the workout and was very impressive to say the least. He’s got a very quick arm, his fastball was sitting between 89-90 mph the whole time, he topped out at 91 on the day. The impressive part was the four pitch mix he had working, it included the CB / CH / SL with a lot of feel for those secondaries. With two years left of high school, he’s going to be another dominant arm you hear about from the Central Valley. Highlights: H: 5’11” W: 163.6 Max EV: 90.3 mph | 60: 7.25 | INF Velo: 83 mph | Grip Strength - R: 107.2 L: 114.7 FB: 89.5-90.8 T91 (12.5 max IVB / 13.7 max HM) spin: 1900+ CB: 74.7-75.7 (-9.4 max IVB) spin: 2200+ CH: 81.4-83.3 (12.5 max HM spin: 1700 CT: 85.9-87.7 (8.5 max IVB) spin: 2200+ |

Wyatt McElree RHP / SS / Redwood High, CA / 2027McElree only participated in the hitting workout, he’s headed into his senior year about to sign with the University of Miami, his last event was the NorCal ProCase this past summer and he did what McElree usually does, dominate. He’s going to Miami to be PO but I’m convinced he can hit in college too, his batting practice was by far the most impressive on the day. From the start, McElree was sitting around the 100 mph EV range, with his highest being an event leading 107.2 mph. He found the barrel on the ball consistently, he was hitting the balls out to every part of the field, even his misses were loud. McElree is an intriguing athlete with tons of talent and still a lot to put on his frame. Going to be exciting to see how his senior year ends up. Highlights: H: 6’2” W: 186.1 Max EV: 107.2 mph | EV AVG: 96.1 mph | Max Distance: 408 FT | Hard Hit: 80.4% |

JD Moreno LHP / OF / Redwood High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 230 / POS: 13
Moreno has made huge strides on the mound since this Summer, he’s refined his slider into a real off speed pitch, and his fastball is now topping out at 87 mph. Moreno isn’t the biggest of guys, he’s lengthy with long limbs and moves around the diamond with athleticism. In the outfield, he showed off his arm strength (89 mph event best) and proved he can run with a 7.01 60 yd dash. During the hitting portion of the workout, Moreno displayed low line drives with some pull side pop. Another quality arm that is going to make an impact for the Redwood High School team this season. Highlights: H: 6’0” W: 151.2 Max EV: 97.4 mph | 60: 7.01 | OF Velo: 89 mph | Grip Strength: R- 115.8 L- 115.0 FB: 85.3-87.0 T87.1 (17.4 max IVB / -9.4 max HM) spin: 2200+ SL: 72.8-75.3 T76.4 (17.3 max HM) spin: 2000+ CH: 75.3-76.6 T77.1 (-15.3 max HM / -16.6 AVG) spin: 1700+ |

Matteo Zuniga OF / LHP / Mt. Whitney High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 152 / POS: 34
Zuniga is coming off of his sophomore year at Mt. Whitney, he was last seen by Prep Baseball Staff this summer at the Future Games Tryout in Stockton, CA. Fast forward a couple months later, Zuniga started his day off with a 6.75 60 which led the event. Zuniga has a real hit tool, with tons of feel for the barrel and he really hits the ball line to line. His batting practice isn’t going to make you turn your head, but he knows how to hit and spoil pitches, that goes a lot farther sometimes than high EV. The strength is going to come in the next two years, he’s still pretty young, but he has a great foundation to become a premium outfielder. Zuniga also threw a bullpen at the end of the day and threw a ton of strikes from the submarine angle. Highlights: H: 5’7” W: 147.9 Max EV: 97.3 mph | 60: 6.75 | OF Velo: 80 mph | Max Bat Speed: 70.8 mph | Grip Strength: R- 98.4 L- 100.2 |

Kasen Thomas OF / 2B / Hanford High, CA / 2028Rankings StateRank: 233 / POS: 49
Thomas looks to have gained about 10-15 lbs of muscle since last year, all of his metrics increased from his last Scout Day. He has a stockier build but he is a bat that will make an impact to a lineup, he swings with intent and has a mature middle/opp approach at the plate. Thomas does a great job of getting his hands inside the baseball, a lot of his balls were hit to the RF gap with backspin, even his misses were still hit solid. Defensively, he’s going to have to get fast if he wants to be a CF/RF, but his arm is at a point now where he can potentially stick there. Highlights: H: 5’9” W: 182.5 Max EV: 98.8 mph | OF Velo: 84 mph | 60 Yard Dash: 7.51 | Grip Strength: R- 119.6 L- 118.5 |
